I have the buyers in Baltimore! Are you ready to sell ?                                    I have just started working with a delightful couple. How long do you think it will take me  to find them a home? Remember I always ask for their wish list.  Here are some of their requirements...quite practical, ''We are looking for a home  up to $250,000. Must be pet friendly for our two dogs, so a fenced yard would really be nice. We are a young couple and would  like a garage... but will consider a parking pad that would comfortably fit an 18 foot work van. It does not have to be a large home...  2 or more bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths.  We would like a sunny home with outdoor space for entertaining. We really like to garden, entertain and love barbecuing. We have been driving around looking for a pla...

How Socially Networked is Your City? We are told that it is imperative to be on the major social networking sites if we are going to be successful in business. This is where people go to get quick first hand information on just about anything. But, what if you live in a city where this is not the case, where the majority of people are not on Facebook or LinkedIn? Are you missing a big part of your potential business from the many people who are not tuned into the social networking media? Should you move to another city, which is more in line with today's major means of communication? Do we need to keep a major offline, or in person, means of social networking in our plans in the less electronically connected cities?  Perhaps we should do this no matter how networked our community is. Following up on more of the handmade art objects  from American Craft Council Show in Baltimore, take a look at  some of the pieces from the wood artisans. I love this wooden duck. Notice how the  position of the egg changes as the duck rolls along. Fell in love with this piece and bought if for Doug's new baby boy. Can't wait to give him the gift.                                       This sculptured jewelry box in closed form and then a similar one opened. The artist has also incorporated a hidden compartment for that special treasure. I happen to think each of these pieces are special treasures.                                    Another trapezoid box by the same artist ,Eugene Watson, shown closed and then open. The inside is lined with ultra-suede. They are for special collectors.....

All that glitters at the ACC show may not be gold. One Person's Stuff is Another Person's Art....and, I am glad to see this imagination used with such creativity.   I met Baron Rene von Richthofen at the Baltimore's American Craft Council Show this week. This very charming man creates art out of a variety of materials but mostly car parts and miniature cars. He uses the term "controlled chaos" descibing how he attaches these materials that fuel his imagination. ''The automobile is the most important invention of the last century. It has given us freedom of mobility and has systematically led to every advantage we currently take for granted. Along with its practical purposes, I celebrate the finer points of the automobile that have brought the world together and have inspired our inner c...

Here is a bit of the Serengeti..as seen this weekend in Baltimore  at the  American Craft Council Show February 24-27th.                           I found the crocodile and the giraffe done by the same artists Scott and Jodi Causey who are from Sarasota, Fl.  They were a wonderful in moving the large ceramic crocodile on the left so  I could get a better picture. My suggestion was to get a couple of Stefan's books to display with the animals. Guess I am always marketing. The photo of the middle crocodile was a small jewelry pin by Sean Brown, an artist from Denver, Colorado   Tonight I see Karen's post The Graceful Giraffe meets the Type E Personality   and made this comment: '' Karen, I love this post! Well of course, I would...it's about me! Could you move to Baltimore? I really nee...

For over 30 years the annual American Craft Council Show has been in Baltimore! American Craft Council Show Will Be in Baltimore This Weekend! February 24-27th As a former ceramic artist, I am not sure if I have missed an ACC show. Over the years I have gone with my friend and publisher Peg Silloway. Today was even more special. Peg's baby sister, Kathleen, joined us...and did we have fun! Take a look at this hat marathon. Sometimes it really pays to be the picture taker rather than the subject. This was at the end of our day. All of us were a bit tired since we started walking the show about 6 hours earlier. I think know Kathleen really enjoyed the different colors, style and personality of each hat. The owner of Moire's Millinery seemed pleased with our modeling. And I loved taking th...

How about a movie at the Charles and afterwards a  Crepe treat right next door? The Charles is located at 1711 N.Charles St. just two blocks north of Penn Station of Baltimore's Penn Station  The structure that holds the Charles Theater was  designed in 1892 (119 years ago) by architect Jackson C. Gott. ' The Beaux-Arts buildings were originally designed to be a cable car barn (north side) and a powerhouse (south side). The buildings served as cable car facilities for four years after which they became a streetcar barn, a bus barn, a library for the blind, and the Famous Ballroom. In 1939, the Times Theatre opened on the site as Baltimore's first all-newsreel movie house. The theater was re-named the Charles circa 1959 and became a calendar revival house in 1979. The Charles remained a...

You will find me at the ACC this weekend just like every year in the past. The show will be February 24-27, 2011 There will be more than 700 artists including jewelry, clothing, furniture and home accessories.  The ACC is the largest juried indoor craft show in the nation.                                                Here are some of my observations from the past FOUR years. The crafts are as varied as the artists represented. There will be lots more photos this weekend when I visit the  Convention Center right here in Baltimore. Let me know if there is a special artist or type of craft that you would like me to seek out. Let me know before Friday morning. Good News For Investors: 90 Day Flip Rule Waived FHA finally understands the concept of time equals money.  Previously a Seller had to own a property for at least 90 days before FHA would insure the mortgage. Now that has temporarily been waived. --------------------------------------------- FHA 90 Day Flip Rule is Waived Until December 31, 2011 The Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced it is instituting a one-year moratorium on the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) 90-day anti-flipping rule. With certain exceptions, such as HUD-owned and bank-owned properties, FHA currently prohibits insuring a mortgage on a home owned by the seller for less than 90 days.  However, beginning Feb. 1, 2011, buyers may use FHA-insured financing to purchase properties resold through pri...

Maryland: Internships: Employers and Students: Check It Out One of the concerns that employers have when looking for new young college graduate employees is the set of skills and knowledge which the potential new employees bring to the job.  Frequently there is a mismatch of talent needed with the the talent available or a lack of knowledge as to what the employers are seeking.  In spite of the many college graduates each year, this leaves many employers with insufficient options from which to choose. The concern exists from the other end as well.  All too many students graduate from college and have difficulty matching their educational experience with the needed skills of the employers. The employers are ready and willing to grow and want to hire people to make this growth a reality. ...

Change The Facade And Sell The House If you approach someone when you have a frown on your face, then you may not be as well received as when you approach them with a smile on your face. The same may be true when trying to sell a house.  If the house is frowning, then potential buyers may just walk away. Take this house in the picture below as an example.  It is a row house in Downtown Baltimore.  Many of the row houses in Baltimore are delightful with their very interesting architecture.  But for some reason someone decided to mess with what used to be a good looking house and created this awful facade.   If we step back from this house, then we can see the houses that are typical for this block of row houses. One of the main selling features of this property has been taken away such t...

Baltimore: A Reduction In Crime By Itself Does Not Make The City Acceptable The City of Baltimore experienced a significant reduction in gun violence and in murders for the year 2010 as compared to previous years. This is good news, but it is not sufficient to call the City an acceptable place to live. If one has a car which was in an accident whereby the fender is dented such that it hits the wheel and whereby the door can not be opened, then when it is taken to be repaired, then both of these defects must be repaired before it can be considered acceptable again.  The wheel must be free to roll and turn and the door must be free to open and close.  If either one of the defects is not repaired, then it is not acceptable to be put on the road. If the City of Baltimore reduces its number ...
