Cosmo's as we call it... is one of the restaurants on the square that is always filled with happy people even happier to be selecting a delicious martini followed by even more delicious food. Cosmo's is hard to miss, with it's new bright yellow and red sign that adorns the front of the building. In the summertime, people literally are swarming out of the large windows that make the place so welcoming. Comso's is the only restaurant on the square which offers you an over sized menu of solely martini's when you first walk in, exactly what everyone needs to unwind. Flip over that huge menu and you'll find some of the most scrumptious food the square has to offer. Their menu ranges from seafood, to traditional Italian dishes all with a touch of flair. If your not interested in sitting at th...

Canton, as we know it today was not always as "hip" and "fun" as we know it today. According to an old legend, it was John O'Donnell, an Irish sea caption who first acquired Canton in 1785. The name Canton comes from "Canton, China" which was where Captain O'Donnell got tea, silk and satin and brought it to Baltimore. That cargo was what Captain O'Donnell used to pay for the waterfront area that we now know as Canton. Around 1800, Captain O'Donnell had built a 1,981-acre plantation which included his main home on Boston Street between Clinton and Highland Avenue. However, after a few decades there was so much commercial and industrial growth which basically transformed the O'Donnell plantation into a huge real estate company which held all the land between Fells Point and Lazaretto Poin...

As everyone knows, I love my neighborhood. In my opinion, Mount Vernon is the best place to live in Baltimore City. (I will entertain arguments to the contrary, of course, so please feel free to respond with why your neighborhood is the pinnacle of city living.) I was reminded of the joys of Mount Vernon while helping a few clients look for rentals. My partner and I primarily work in sales, but about 10% of our business comes from rentals, with that percentage most likely increasing in this economic climate. One of the most popular buildings for rent is 1101 Saint Paul, or the Saint Paul at Chase. www.stpaulatchase.com/spac_home.htm It might not be the most esthetically pleasing structure to look at, but the views from the building are spectacular. If the position of the unit is on the ...

I had to take a picture of this - we were leaving Baltimore on Saturday and got some gas for only $2.23/gallon!  In Crofton the gas is a little more expensive than some other areas, but if you'regoing up Rt. 97 towards Baltimore, the Wawa and Royal Farm stores off Veterans Highway are always good prices and obviously the Shell Station in Baltimore will save you some money as well. I think this is a great economic stimulous!     ************************************************************************************* To list your property for sale or to purchase a property in Maryland, call Lisa & David Webber, ABR, Licensed Realtors®. The entertainment budget in our household (as well as many others I'm sure) has been slim as of late.  Thank goodness we live in Charm City!  This is the first of a series of posts which will document how easy it is to enjoy Baltimore on a budget.  I will chronicle ten outings, in and around Baltimore, and I am giving myself a whopping budget of fifty bucks!  Wish me luck! My first event took me to Baltimore's Homeland neighborhood.  This fantastic North Baltimore neighborhood, close to Loyola University and the College of Notre Dame is home to some of Baltimore's most beautiful homes, and to the breathtaking Cathedral of Mary our Queen, where I was lucky enough to spend a few hours last evening. The Cathedral which was dedicated in 1959, and took over five years to build, is truly one ...

I had the opportunity yesterday to tour Turner Development's newest project in Baltimore's Locust Point neighborhood yesterday, and the day before.  I feel that I need to consult a thesaurus prior to making this post, as I don't think that my feeble vocabulary is stocked with enough superlatives to describe this truly amazing project.  I want to be clear, that I have been skeptical of this project since its inception, but am truly blown away by the progress, and with the finish line is sight, the end result.  I originally and naively thought that it would be crazy to build a luxury development like this in South Baltimore, without the businesses in place to cater to the residents, but now firmly believe that Silo Point is about to be the anchor that turns Locust Point into one of the pr...

Baltimore is a great city to live in or near.  There are lots of things to do, lots of places to go and lots of things to see.  However, in the current economic times things usually cost money, and everyone is tightening their economic belts and trying to conserve what they already have or only spending their sparse incomes on what they really need.  Baltimore has a solution to the tightening economic belt.  You can still go out and have a good time and visit some of the many museum's, plays, musical productions, and sights without having to spend a dime.  For the month of October many events have opened their doors to the public for no admission cost.  That's right, it's free!! Just a few of the free things you can enjoy  are Maryland Science Centre (special times), Port Discovery (spe...

It was a perfect evening last night to go out and enjoy the delicious Fall Weather in Maryland and eat some crabs outside for possibly the last time this year. There was not much conversation at the table as we concentrated on picking the crabs and enjoying this beautiful sunset across the harbor. Life is good. There are plenty of restaurants in Mount Vernon, which is one of the benefits of this fabulous neighborhood. (Along with the boutiques, the park, the cultural institutions, the performing venues, etc.) And I love food. So I suspect that quite a few of my blogs will be about meals that I've had in and around Baltimore.             This past weekend I had the good fortune to go to a restaurant that is a staple of not only the Mount Vernon scene, but the entire city. Restaurants come and go, and it's exciting when a new and interesting one pops onto the radar. But I confess that I am a sucker for tradition, and I greatly enjoy the establishments that have been a mainstay for many years.             So, on Saturday night I put on my Loehmanns find and some sparkly shoes and walked up Saint ...

If a landlord wants to avoid lawsuits, which is every landlord, it is vital they know a bit of state law.  There is a mountain of potential liabilities in most states that some landlords are not aware of.  A landlord that has not taken the appropriate steps to comply with state regulations could jeopardize their business, their tenants, and the surrounding neighbors.  Every landlord needs to recognize their responsibilities and take preventative actions to potentially dangerous situations.     Tenant dealing illegal drugs   Did you know that if one of your tenants is involved in any sort of criminal activity while in your property, you could be held responsible?  It's true.  The majority of the time, criminal acts involve a tenant dealing drugs out of the house.  If anyone is injured du...

If you are thinking about buying a foreclosed property to rent to tenants, you MUST read this article.  There are so many crucial factors that need careful consideration in order for the owner to actually turn a profit on a foreclosed property.  There is no denying how bad the real estate market is right now, anyone who has tried to sell a property or pay a mortgage could tell you that.  Interest rates are higher than ever, and so are foreclosures.  When people think of foreclosures they usually assume the property is in a bad neighborhood, but that is untrue.  Foreclosures are everywhere, from low to middle to high class properties.  This is why investors are jumping on the opportunity to buy these properties at below market value, but be warned, some of these properties are made to se...

What a glorious Fall weekend to take a trip down to Fells Point in Baltimore City. This is the 42nd annual outdoor street festival held in Baltimore's original deep water seaport, Fell's Point. The festival was originally started as a way to raise funds and draw attention to Fell's Point when the area was slated for demolition due to highway construction. The Fell's Point Fun Festival continues that tradition, showcasing historic Fell's Point, it's businesses, its charming 18th and 19th century residences, and Baltimore City life.   The Festival will attract over 700,000 people this year, who as an added treat will be able to enjoy the fireworks later this evening from Fort McHenry in honor of Michael Phelps. The American Dream Downpayment Initiative (ADDI) is back and they have $500,000 to give away, that is $10,000 per household to qualifying buyers who are purchasing their first home. American Dream Downpayment Initiative aims to increase the homeownership rate, especially among lower income and minority households, and to revitalize and stabilize communities. ADDI will help first-time homebuyers with the biggest hurdle to homeownership: downpayment and closing costs. The program was created to assist low-income first-time homebuyers in purchasing single-family homes by providing funds for downpayment, closing costs, and rehabilitation carried out in conjunction with the assisted home purchase. ADDI will provide downpayment, closing costs, and rehabilitation assistance to eligible individ...
