The signs are everywhere: daffodils in bloom, early flowering trees spreading their white and pink canopies. Soon, Cherry Blossoms will be popping open all over the Washington DC region. Throngs of sightseers and tourists will be elbowing their way around the Tidal Basin. While the Tidal Basin remains a gorgeous and historic setting for seeing the blossoms, there are alternatives that come with less traffic. First of all, predictions are that the cherry blossoms will be at their peak bloom from March 29 through April 3 2011. Keep an eye on the weather as sudden warm spells mean you can catch the blossoms a few days earlier than expected and avoid some of the crowds. In the past, I've always celebrated the arrival of Spring by visiting the gorgeous Cherry Blossoms around the Tidal Basin in D.C.  See my blog post this time last year: Thank God I Didn't Have an Open House Yesterday! However, this year, we did a little something different.  My wife's mother who lives in Maryland suggested that we visit a community called Kenwood in Bethesda/Chevy Chase to see a display of cherry blossoms.  I did a little research on the internet and learned that Kenwood is an upscale neighborhood of about 240 homes with approximately 1,200 Yoshino cherry trees.  There are less crowds, and some perfect places to find your own place to sit and enjoy the beauty.
