The real estate market remained strong in Catonsville, MD in November 2013!There were 138 listings in November - that's up 27% from the number of homes for sale in 2012.  Sellers are finally comfortable putting their homes on the market after several years of waiting for home prices to come back up.There were 29 homes sold in Catonsville this month - typical of slower sales towards the end of a calendar year.  Compare that to the 49 homes sold in Catonsville just the month before in October.  Home sellers are still getting offers very close and sometimes even above their asking price.  The average selling price in our area is $258,000 which is just 2.71% higher than in 2012.  Stabilizing prices are a good sign for the health of the real estate market! The Baltimore area here in Maryland ...

Happy Thanksgiving in Catonsville - 10th Annual Turkey Trot 5K and 1 mile Fun Run. A toasty 26f degrees at 8am on Thanksgiving morning in 21228 and Catonsville High School was a hive of activity. The 10th Annual Fundraiser Turkey Trot was the big attraction. All age groups and fitness levels arrived to enjoy the delightful crisp clear day. ALL THE MONEY raised will benefit the Catonsville High School Cross County team. Hillcrest Elementary School was well represented by "Healthy Hillcrest Hedgies"     A section of Rolling Road was closed for the start.  The course was mostly through the grounds of CHS and not an easy flat road race. This was the leader and ultimately the winner in just over 17 minutes. My Little guy got a ribbon for his participation in the 1 mile Fun Run. Now off to ge...

Who do you think is a successful person?   We all have different reasons why a day is an awesome day. Today I floated round on cloud nine! This is why!   This morning I met with my son's 2nd Grade teacher for the quarterly parent teacher conference. As I was leaving she mentioned that I was on their wall. She chuckled at my puzzled face and then told me that they had recently had a class discussion about successful people. The students offered names of who they believed were "successful" people. My sweet, smart and loyal 7 year old spoke up. He said "My Mummy is very successful, she sells lots of homes and helps local families"   I can't ever recall being in such an auspicious group, but now I know who my number one fan is.

Catonsville acupuncturist works on people and animals!  Local certified acupuncturist Erina Hoos has built a practice of loyal patients with her calm presence, excellent technique and 14 years of experience.  I have a number of friends who see her for treatment for back problems, headaches and general wellness.  Acupuncture uses super thin needles to restore balance in the body's energy pathways - know as Qi (chee).  The goal is to eliminate symptoms while also addressing the root cause of the problem. The FDA approved acupuncture needles for back problems over a decade ago!  Erina's practice includes pets and even larger animals such as horses. To work on an animal she has to be willing to follow it around and keep up with wagging tails.  Once the animal is settled they are more open to...

The new Catonsville Life Magazine features real estate insight from The McIntire Team!I was excited to share my experience in the local real estate market in the November issue of Catonsville Life and hope to contribute more information on real estate in future issues.  The Catonsville Real Estate market has high demand right now and somewhat limited inventory which means sellers can get their asking price and sometimes even higher. Being named one of the Top 10 Places in Maryland for Young Families says it all about living here!  Catonsville Life is a relatively new magazine currently mailed to 5,000 households in the 21228 zip code.  The editors at Catonsville Life want input from local residents about interesting people, groups and upcoming events.  These local magazines from hibu ar...

It's time to Trick or Treat in Historic Ellicott City! The annual tradition takes place on Halloween this Thursday, October 31st from 4-6pm (or until the treats run out) when trick or treaters descend onto Main Street in Ellicott City!  Stores, shops and restaurants open their doors and candy bowls to the scores of kids who come in costume to trick or treat! There is something so appropriate about little ghosts, goblins and witches (and lots of cowboys, princesses and jedi knights of course) making their way through the historic and some say haunted streets of this little town from the 1700's! Lot of grown ups come in costume too - it's very festive and crowded!  Families from Catonsville are lucky this year since Baltimore County Schools close 3 hours early on Halloween!  Hope to see you...

Catonsville, MD has been named one of the top 10 cities in Maryland for young families!  A recent survey by the consumer advocacy site NerdWallet named the top cities in Maryland that are most appealing for families.  They looked at the quality of the public schools, afford ability (mortgage costs, tax rates, other expenses) and whether the area is growing and prospering even as it attracts new residents.Catonsville ranked number six on the list in part because of easy access to our historic downtown area on Frederick Road, excellent schools and proximity to jobs in the Baltimore Washington Area. Public schools in Catonsville regularly rank as some of the best in the state.  Catonsville Middle School is a Maryland Blue Ribbon School of Excellence for its' high quality teachers and stude...

Why Invest In A College Dorm Room? You send your child off to college to get an education, which you believe is a wise investment in their future. However, while it may be a wise investment, it does not mean that everything related to it is, also, wise. For instance, a large part of your expenditure will come from the room, assuming that your child does not stay at home during the college years. If you go the normal route of getting a dorm room at the college, then you are just spending money that you will not get back. On the other hand, if you look at purchasing a home where your college bound child can stay, then you may be making a worthwhile investment at the same time that you are taking care of your child's housing needs. This is especially true if you can get one or two other st...
