  This past week, we were able to meet up with some dear old friends and enjoy a meal at Catonsville Gourmet. They don't take reservations but you can call thirty minutes ahead to be put on the list. This worked just right and we were seated within minutes. The wait staff is very attentive and eager to please...making suggestions for the different specials. Our friends decided on oysters on the half shell and both ordered one of the fish specials. My favorite was a tuna tar tare served on a bed of yummy seaweed salad. Scallops and a lobster dish were excellent, cooked to perfection and enjoyed by all. We were having such a good time......I forgot to photograph the food. "Remember when I was afraid of the Dentist?"  That is what my daughter said to me as we walked into Smiles 4 Children for her 6 month check up today.  At 5 (and a HALF), this is her 3rd visit to the dentist.  She walked in with no fear, no trepidation. Their marquee says it all, Smiles4Children is Dentistry for Children.  Located at 1134 N Rolling Road near the corner of Rolling Road and Route 40 in Catonsville, just down the street from the Double TT Diner, the combination dental/orthodontic office is a Dental Haven for kids.   If you, like me, have horrible memories of going to the dentist as a child, this is the place to start your kids off on the right tooth!   We have never had to wait for more than a few minutes on the way in, but sometimes it has been hard to get my daughter OUT ... 02/16/2011

This Ain't your Mama's grilled cheese, that's what I thought when I looked at the menu board at Grilled Cheese & Co in Catonsville.  They are in the building at the corner of Edmonson Avenue and Harlem Lane,  that for many, many years housed the Catonsville Bakery.  I have fond childhood memories of stopping there after church on Sunday's to pick up buns and fresh bread to take to my Grandmother's.  Walking in the door, the memories came flooding back, the smell of fresh baked bread hit me.  My daughter and I checked out the wide variety of sandwich, soups and salads offered on the big chalkboard that takes up one entire wall.   The place is small with only about 10 or 15 small tables, that I imagine can get pretty crowded.  Parking is a bit tight, but I would say it's worth finding a s... 02/14/2011

Have you noticed the psychedelic Volkswagen Combi van parked on Frederick Road in Catonsville? How could you miss it? It's the rolling sign for the newest Pizza restaurant in town. Peace A Pizza recently opened a location at 15 Mellor Avenue in the business district of Catonsville. In the last few years Catonsville has been blessed with some great new eateries (stay tuned as I eat my way through the 'ville this year) and this is no exception.The location is not so hot (It's off the usual beaten path) and the sign outside that says "Sorry We're Open" is rather odd, but it is well worth the visit.The inside of the restaurant is bright and colorful. If you are looking for a FABULOUS place to eat, you have got to stop in to Duesenberg's in Catonsville, MD.  Just off Frederick Road on Mellor Avenue, parking is available at the meters or a short walk away in a lot.   There is often a wait as it's not a big place, but trust me, it will be well worth it!  It's billed as an American Cafe and Grill, but this ain't your ordinary cafe!  The food is as creative as it is delicious!  The portions are plentiful and the pricing is fair. Every server is friendly, professional and efficient.   It is obvious they love where they work!. Many of the customers are regulars, chatting with the servers and each other.
