Severn School Salsa, Chili Cook Off and Facebook Meet Up in Davidsonsonville MD Saturday August 28, 2010 aligned some 70's Severn School Alums for great Admirals fun! It started with Ann Wallace Rieffe and Geoffe Rieffe's decision to enter the Annapolis Tomato Festival  Homestead Gardens Chili Cook Off. Then they mentioned it to Anne Chandler who mentioned it to me. Ann Wallace facebooked Susan Snyder who said she may drop by. John Norton facebooked me and said he was driving across the country and that he would like to reconnect with some Severn Alums. Only one home sold in the 21035 zipcode last month, down from six transactions in July 2009.  When it comes to "units sold" - i.e., sold and settled - this was the worst July of any I've tracked   With only one transaction, all the other statistics are practically meaningless, so it's impossible to draw any conclusions regarding a trend. Out and About Loving Annapolis         Hometown of Davidsonville In the 17th and 18th centuries Europeans and their descendants settled and developed farms and plantations in around what is now known as Davidsonville. In 1839 Thomas Davidson, of which Davidsonville received its name, married and built a home at what is now Davidsonville Rd and Central Ave. This home still stands today and is part of the Davidsonville Historic District  which is among the best preserved examples of a crossroads community which were prevalent in Anne Arundel County in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.   South Maryland Little League The South Maryland Little League 11-12-year-old All-Stars won the Maryland District 4 tournament in South Baltimore last weekend. The tournament included teams from Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Prince George's counties. The team is now one of eight that will compete for the Maryland State Championship July 24-30 in Salisbury, vying for a chance to make it to the Regional Championship in Bristol, Conn.   South Maryland players hail from Annapolis, Bowie, Crofton, Davidsonville, Edgewater, Gambrills, Harwood, Mayo, Riva, South River, and elsewhere. It's 1pm on Saturday December 19, 2009. It has been snowing since about 8:30pm last night. We have about 15 inches right now with no end in sight. It is quite beautiful looking out through my camera lens.  This storm is the biggest we have had since Feb. 2003. That year we had just moved into our new home in Davidsonville the spring before. We had moved from a home with a short driveway. Our new home has a looooong driveway on a private road. In 2003 we had not even bought a snowplow yet. We were stranded for days as we slowly shoveled our way out to the main road. Today we have a snowplow. It is covered in snow. We will have to dig it out to use it. The first-time homebuyer credit had no direct impact on real estate sales during October in Davidsonville, Maryland, since prices in this zipcode typically exceed the first-time buyer price range.  Yet activity did increase last month over October of 2007 and 2008. Other good news for Davidsonville home owners is that both the average and median prices increased over the same month last year and the days on market were nearly down to 2006 numbers.  Unfortunately, the percentage of sold price to list price is still under 90% - although it went up 2% from the same month last year. Classic “good news / bad news”… It’s official.  WUSA Channel 9 is going mobile this summer.  So are the D.C. affiliates of NBC and PBS.   You’ll be able to watch everything from the evening news to CSI or Law & Order to your favorite soap operas and game shows - anything these local network affiliates broadcast, including the ads.  Good news for T.V. fans!  But there’s another side to the story… It seems that wireless carriers have no plans to offer “Mobile T.V.” because they already offer their own subscription-based TV services.   D.C. was reportedly chosen as a test market for Mobile T.V.     I was on a mission to get some shots of Davidsonville, Anne Arundel County's own "horse country," when I pulled off Rt. 214 to take this photo.                           This fella wondered what was going on and came over to check us out.             Homes in Davidsonville tend to be very grand, and located in upscale communities with acre+ lots.                       You'll find beautiful historic churches...                 And the new Renditions Golf Course. (This is the 30's style clubhouse, seen from the driveway as you approach the course.) Homestead for the Holidays is a magical place in Davidsonville, Maryland, that seems to attract as many visitors on a winter weekend as it does a busy Spring day during planting season. Your children can visit Santa at Homestead Gardens on Saturdays, 10-4, or Sundays, noon-4.  Or they can watch the trains any day - there are even benches and tables nearby, along with a refreshment stand.
