Recovery Month in Gaithersburg September 2023 is National Recovery Month. This year’s theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Together We Are Stronger,” focuses on the first responders, healthcare workers, community leaders, and advocates who help support recovery in our society. Roadside Litter Cleanup Program The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) this week launched an all-hands-on-deck litter and debris removal effort aimed at removing litter from its roadsides prior to Labor Day weekend. SHA maintenance shop personnel have been spanning the State to beautify roadsides as part of its “Operation Clean Sweep Maryland” project.In addition to making roadways look better, the project has additional goals.Litter, including plastic bottles, fast food containers and cigarette butts, can wind up in highway drainage systems and clog the system or cause slow drainage. Gaithersburg Parking Permit Survey We’re seeking feedback from City residents about existing neighborhood parking conditions as we develop new parking permit regulations and updates to the City Code. A survey is available online here through October 1. The Permit Parking Program will consolidate the variety of existing City Parking Permits into one program. Kensington Labor Day Parade and Festival  The 56th Annual Town of Kensington Labor Day Parade and Festival will start off the holiday early, with the parade kicking off at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 4.
