Orchid Show & Sale at Brookside Gardens The Rock Creek Orchid Club is sponsoring an Orchid Show & Sale In the Visitors Center at Brookside Gardens this weekend, March 19 and 20, 2016. Orchid growers will be available to answer your questions. St. Patrick's Day, 1965 The engraving on the inside band of Dolores' engagement ring shows the date March 17, 1965, the day that we were engaged to be married. So, this is a special anniversary for us. We were married on June 12, 1965 and are approaching our 51st wedding anniversary.We were in Portsmouth, Virginia at the time and I lived in a beautiful new apartment above the model in a garden apartment complex that we were managing. I had been in the real estate and insurance business since the summer of 1961 when I opened my first office after my completion of law school. Happy St. Patrick's Day. Onion Harvest Pie Recipe Several bloggers asked about this recipe after I blogged about Chef Dolores serving this meal. From The Onion Harvest Cookbook by Barbara Ciletti(A cookbook with some really great recipes) 2 pounds, fresh Swiss chard, stems and leaves chopped separately2 eggs1 cup ricotta cheese¼ cup freshly grated Parmagiano-Reggiano cheese¼ tsp ground nutmeg¼ tsp fine sea salt¼ tsp finely ground black pepper½ cup minced pancetta  (can omit if you want a vegetarian alternate)1 large white winter onion diced3 cloves garlic minced¼ cup golden seedless raisins2 unbaked pastry sheet, thawed   (Can also use 2 pie crusts)In a large pot, bring ½ cup water to a boil. Maryland Nutty Plum Crumble Recipe  Recipe tested and recommended by Dolores Kelley12 ripe plums      2-3 thick strips of peel and the freshly   squeezed juice from 1 orange1/3 cup soft brown sugar1 stick unsalted butter, chilled and cubed¾ cup self-rising flour1/3 cup ground almonds (almond flour)3 Tbsp. slivered almonds3 Tbsp. pine nutsChilled cream, to serveUse a medium ovenproof dishServes 4Preheat the oven to 350 degrees..Halve and pit the plums and arrange them in a single layer in a baking dish.
