VITA Volunteers Needed in Gaithersburg Help others on their path to financial well-being by serving as a VITA Volunteer this tax season. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program provides free tax preparation services to low-income residents in several locations throughout Montgomery County, including one in Gaithersburg. Volunteers, who must be at least 18 years old, help residents prepare and file their taxes, and also provide information on resources such as banking services and food. Yuletide at Winterthur For those of us who live in Montgomery County, Maryland, Wilmington, Delaware is close enough for a day trip. On Monday, Dolores and I traveled to Winterthur, the home of Henry Francis du Pont to see Yuletide at Winterthur, their special holiday mansion tour. Yuletide at Winterthur is open for daily tours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through January 3, 2016. They are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day but will be open on New Year's Day. Allocate time to see the special exhibits in the museum and to visit the gift shops. We always include lunch during our visits. Use the link to learn more about Winterthur. Thanksgiving Day Recycling to be Picked Up the Following Saturday The City of Gaithersburg announces that the collection of recycled materials for residents whose regular recycling day is Thursday, November 26, 2015, will take place the following Saturday, November 28. This includes newspaper, mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, and commingled materials, as well as brush, branches, grass clippings, leaves and other yard trimmings, picked up by the City’s recycling contractor.
