Use of Fire Pits, Fire Bowls and Chimineas in Montgomery County, Maryland The use of fire pits, fire bowls and similar appliances has become popular in our area.  Montgomery County Fire and Rescue has provided the following guidelines for their use by area residents. You must have permission of the land owner. There must be one person at least 18 years of age to assume responsibility for the use of these appliances. A permit from the Fire Marshal or the Department of Environmental Protection is not required.  Use in accordance to the manufacturer’s guidelines. Symptoms of Heart Attacks A heart attack is a life-and-death emergency and every second counts. If you experience or see someone with any of the listed symptoms, immediately call 9-1-1. Not all these signs occur in every heart attack. Sometimes they go away and return. Heart attack victims can benefit from new medications and treatments unavailable to patients in years past. For example, clot-busting drugs can stop some heart attacks and strokes in progress, reducing disability and saving lives. But to be effective, these drugs must be given relatively quickly after heart attack or stroke symptoms first appear. So again, don't delay-get help right away! Call 9-1-1. Comment Sought on Gaithersburg FY16 Budget  City Manager Tony Tomasello has proposed a Fiscal Year 2016 budget of $67.8 million. This includes an operating budget of $49.9 million, a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) funded at $13.3 million, a newly-established CIP for Stormwater Management at $3.4 million, and a transfer of $1.2 million to the Other Post-Employment Benefits Trust Fund.  Comment can be made at the public hearing on April 20, at a work session on April 27, and in writing to  cityhall@gaithersburgmd.gov until the record closes on May 13 at 5 p.m. The budget is scheduled for adoption on June 1, 2015. This is a City of Gaithersburg announcement.  Spoonbill at the National Zoo.Photograph by Roy Kelley Roy and Dolores Kelley Photographs

Book Recommendation: Entombed by Linda Fairstein   Dolores and I are in the process of reading all of the Alexandra Cooper crime novels by New York Times bestselling author Linda Fairstein. You may wish to read this series in order but that is not necessary for your reading pleasure.
