Asphalt Repaving in Kentlands   Kentlands residents need to pay very close attention to the following announcement from the Kentlands Citizens Assembly. This is the schedule for the next phase of the asphalt repaving of the community owned mews (alleys). These activities will impact access to garages during the operations. If we have the same experience as last year, there will probably be weather delays or work requirement delays. So, all of us need to also watch for updates of the schedule.  Please keep in mind that the public streets are not included in this repaving program. Parking may be inconvenient during the paving operations since there will be many more vehicles parked on the public streets.   KENTLANDS® Citizens Assembly Asphalt  Repaving Phase II of the asphalt paving proje...

Book Recommendation: A Foreign Country by Charles Cumming   I just finished the second book this week by the same author. This spy thriller, A Foreign County (2012) by Charles Cumming was the best novel of the two. This is another good book for your reading list. The Sunday Book Review in The New York Times will tell you all you need to know. One of my personal goal is to read a least one novel each week for personal pleasure. Federal Court Action:  Wake Up Call for Real Estate Brokers Receiving Kickbacks   The Nation’s Housing column by Kenneth R. Harney provides some details on a legal action in the U.S. District Court in Baltimore that alleges that a top real estate team has received over a million dollars in payments characterized as illegal kickbacks from a title insurance company. The filing seeks class-action status and $11.2 million in compensatory damages. Real estate agents and brokers that have received payments from title insurance companies will want to pay close attention to this litigation. Many real estate firms have affiliated business arrangements with service providers. Those arrangements may lead to challenging and costly litigation when inadequate disclosures are provided to consumers. Su...

Housing Trends, Washington, DC Metro Area, July, 2014   Families on the move to the Washington, DC Metro area will find that home median home prices are up slightly from last year and the inventory of available homes up. However, when you look at the historical figures, the inventory is still below normal levels. Homes are selling quickly and there may be multiple contract competition in preferred areas. Smart home buyers will use the services of an experienced local buyer agent. Those that plan to use mortgage financing should obtain a pre-approval letter for the needed mortgage financing.

This is a British spy novel featuring Alex Milius, formerly with the British Secret Intelligence Service. The setting is Madrid, Spain. When you need additional books for your reading list, you may wish to try some of the novels by this author. This character was introduced in a previous novel, A Spy by Nature. Hosta in our home garden   It is getting near the end of the season for hosta plants in our home neighborhood. When you are selecting hosta plants for your home garden, consider the colors of the leaves and the colors of the blooms. You may need to look closely to see the differences in the flowers.   Hosta in our Kentlands home garden Photograph by Roy Kelley Roy and Dolores Kelley Photographs

Is title insurance needed by home buyers?   Many home buyers ask if they need to purchase title insurance. A good response would be to share this article by my friend Harvey Jacobs. Have some fun as you photograph flowers   Flower photography is a hobby for me and I thought I would share a secret that you can use as you photograph the flowers in your home garden and your neighborhood. You will need an assistant to hold a sheet of colored paper behind the flower to give it a special effect. Try different colors and add this as an exercise for the young people in your family as they explore the potential of photography. By the way, all of your photographs will look better if you spend a few moments editing them. I use iPiccy.com, a free photo editing site. Have a wonderful weekend with your camera in hand.     Gazania, Kentlands, Gaithersburg, MD IMG 8669 Photograph by Roy Kelley Roy and Dolores Kelley Photographs
