Kentlands Community Photowalking, Gaithersburg, Maryland   We always advise prospective home buyers to take walks through the communities that interest them.  You can see so much more by walking than by just a quick drive.  And, you might even have a chance to talk with some of the people in the neighborhood.   When you live in a community, photowalking is a form of relaxation and exercise that benefits most of us that develop a photowalking habit.  I like to walk through our home community of Kentlands and the next community, Lakelands.  It is easy to put aside the problems of the day when you focus your attention and your camera on a blooming flower or a neighborhood squirrel.   Have a very special week with your camera in hand.   Hosta, Kentlands, Flowers IMG_2884     Lilies, Kentlan...

O'Donnell's Sea Grill in Kentlands, A Maryland Favorite For Sea Food It always nice to have a good neighborhood restaurant. It is outstanding when the neighborhood restaurant is recognized as one of the finest seafood restaurants in the region. The O'Donnell's story began many year ago when Tom O'Donnell opened his first restaurant, the "Sea Grill," in downtown Washington, D.C. at 1207 E Street, N.W. in 1922. Undaunted by the Great Depression that gripped Washington in the 1930's, Tom O'Donnell's business was booming. He leased the Victor Wholesalers building at 1221 E Street and after a complete renovation; it opened in 1941 as his second location. Daughter Janice O'Donnell Edelblut joined the business in 1945.Whether it was the luck of the Irish or keen perception of the future, the O...

Man's best friend may not be a landlord's best friend   Guest Blog by Harvey S. Jacobs, Published: in The Washington Post    Are "no pet clauses" legal and enforceable? With some exceptions, landlords have an absolute right to refuse to rent to tenants with pets. Landlords who are willing to accept pets can take several steps to attempt to protect them from the additional costs and risks of allowing pets.   Some years ago, I was contacted by a landlord to assist him evict his longtime, rent-paying tenant from a luxury duplex condominium apartment in a fashionable part of town. Why would a rational landlord do such a thing? Well, the tenant had recently inherited a number of prized cats and significant funds for their care from a deceased family member. The problem was that both the co...

Lewis Orchards Farm Market   When you move to Maryland, you expect to find good food and prospective home buyers ask about the best places to shop and are always interested in farm markets.  One of the first farm markets we always recommend is Lewis Orchards.  The market is located in Dickerson, Maryland, between Poolesville and Beallsville.  From Kentlands, you just drive out Darnestown Road (State Route 28) until you reach the intersection with Peach Tree Road.   Lewis Orchards is a family owned business that has been part of Montgomery County, Maryland life since 1888.  Robert and Linda Lewis are the fourth generation to own and operate the Lewis Orchards Farm Market.   For those that are new to the community, we suggest a stop at the Lewis Orchards Farm Market on the way to taste wi...

Glass America - Windshield Replacement in Gaithersburg During a trip to Virginia Beach last week, our windshield was cracked by a stone on the interstate highway.  So, our windshield needed to be replaced. Dolores called our insurance company and they gave us the choice of two companies.  We were not familiar with the companies and just selected one by chance.  The insurance company put us into immediate contact with Glass America to schedule a windshield replacement the next day. Glass America sent their service vehicle to our home, arrived on schedule, and in about an hour, we had a new windshield.  The process was very easy and very convenient.  If you need a windshield replacement, we would not hesitate to recommend Glass America.  They are located at 7801 Airpark Road, Gaithersburg...

Green Anaconda at the National Zoo in Washington, DC Did you know that Green Anacondas are one of the largest snakes and can grow to a length of 22 feet?  You might not want to meet a Green Anaconda in the wild but you can see one on exhibit at the National Zoo in Washington, DC. The National Zoo is one of our favorite places to visit.  Dolores and I are lucky to live in the Montgomery County, Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC and it is easy for us to plan a day trip to the zoo.  I suggest a day trip because there is much to see and do at the National Zoo.   Many families pack a lunch and plan to spend the day and we recommend that as a good family plan.  Make sure everybody has a camera in hand to capture the special moments to be shared.  If you live in the area and can frequently vi...
