Kentlands Flower Photographs by Roy Kelley, Monday, 9/5/11 We have a very nice morning for Labor Day in Maryland.  As fall approaches, it is a good time to review our plans for the rest of this year.  As I move towards retirement, one of my challenges is to decide what to do with my ActiveRain blog.  Does everybody just drop their ActiveRain blog when they retire?  If you have some good suggestions, I would like to hear them.  I hope you are having an outstanding holiday weekend.  If you have some photographs from your favorite places, please share them in the comments for this post.  Kentlands Flower Photographs by Roy Kelley.  Canon PowerShot G11 Camera.

Kentlands Flower Photographs by Roy Kelley, Saturday, 9/3/11 One of the very nice things about living in Montgomery County, Maryland is that there are always places to go and things to do.  Last night, Dolores and I attended the opening reception of the 41st Annual Labor Day Art Show at Glen Echo Park. The show is sponsored by the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture.  The exhibition features the work of more than 250 artists from the mid-Atlantic region. The show and sale will be open over the weekend from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day and admission is free. If you have photographs from your favorite places, please share them in the comments for this post. Enjoy the holiday weekend!  Kentlands Flower Photographs by Roy Kelley.  Canon PowerShot G11 Camera.

Kentlands Flower Photographs & Comments On Broker Open Houses In Montgomery County, Maryland, Broker Opens are usually held on Tuesdays at lunch time.  A high percentage of the Broker Opens are sponsored by title companies and/or mortgage lenders. Yesterday, Dolores and I attended a newer kind of Broker Open event in the area.  Some agents are breaking away from the traditional time and day and are having happy hour type open houses.  Agents are notified by email and many of the notices also appear on Facebook. The following is the Facebook announcement for the Broker Open we attended.  Village Settlements is one of our favorite sponsors for Broker Opens in our market area. Subject: "Wine & Bountiful Appetizers" Broker Open! Location: Courtyards at Rio * Washingtonian Center, 9750 Athle...

Kentlands Flower Photographs by Roy Kelley, Thursday, 9/1/11 In a few minutes, I will be going out for my usual pre-dawn walk through Kentlands and Lakelands in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  Some people have asked if I always take photographs on my walks.  The answer is no.  It is still dark.  However, I do like the morning light for flower photographs and sometimes delay my walk for a while so I can seek the changing colors of the season and capture some of those images in photographs. Have an ourstanding September.  Maryland is still in the hurricane recovery mode.  The holiday weekend will be a clean up and fix up weekend for thousands of families.  Kentlands Flower Photographs by Roy Kelley.  Canon PowerShot G11 Camera.

Kentlands Flower Photographs by Roy Kelley & Wings of Fancy, Wednesday, 8/31/11 Maryland continued to recover from the impact of hurricane Irene.  There are still thousands of homes without power and much clean up and repair work is yet to be done. Yesterday, I visited Brookside Gardens for the Wings of Fancy Live Butterfly and Caterpillar Exhibit that runs until September 18, 2011.  If you are in the area, do not miss this special exhibit and be sure to have your camera in hand.  I took over 200 photographs.  Brookside Gardens is located in the Wheaton Regional Park in Montgomery County, Maryland. www.BrooksideGardens.org Please share your photographs in the comments for this post. Kentlands Flower Photographs by Roy Kelley, Tuesday, 8/30/11 We had an earthquake last week and just two days ago hurricane Irene passed through Maryland on its way up the east coast.  There are still many homes without power and there is still much clean up and fix up work to do; but, mostly, we are getting back to normal. Dolores and I are grateful that there was no damage to our home in the Kentlands community in Gaithersburg. Our neighborhood is ideal for walking and the gardens are ideal for capturing the colors of the season. The flowers are limited after the tropical storm and fall is near.  Let's enjoy the flower and the colors of summer that we have captured in photographs. Enjoy the remaining days of summer and please share your photographs that will lift the spirits of all th...

Are you covered? Within a few days we have experienced an earthquake and a tropical storm in Maryland.  We are grateful that our home in the Kentland community in Montgomery County had no damage.  Howver, thousands of homes are still without power and many homes and businesses suffered damage.  One of the shocks that will be faced by many is the lack of insurance coverage.  Would you be protected by insurance if you had earthquake or flood damage? It is a good time to review insurance policies and reconsider the risks that we are willing and able to tolerate. As our communities clean up the damage, it is also good time to lend a helping hand to the elderly and the disabled folks that may not be able to handle the yard or repair work. The Colors of Summer in Maryland, A Day After Irene I enjoy walks through the Kentlands and Lakelands communities in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The exercise is good for the body and photographing flowers is good for the mind. During the past few days, we have experienced an earthquake and a major tropical storm in Montgomery County.  We are grateful that our home and our neighborhood were spared from the major damage that many others have experienced in Maryland.  We do have a lot of tree branches to clean up and there is some wind damage that must be corrected. The community will be just fine in a few days. Life is good in Maryland! Kentlands Flower Photograph by Roy Kelley.  Canon PowerShot G11 Camera.
