Life is very good in Kentlands! I enjoy early morning walks through the Kentlands community in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  I need the exercise and enjoy taking a few photographs along the way.  My focus is on the flowers and the changing colors of the seasons. Every now and then, I do capture a picture of a feathered or furry neighbor. When you are looking for a community in which to purchase a home, I recommend that you take a walk for a closer look to see if the quality of life features you are seeking are available in the area.  If you want to take pictures of flowers, you need to be able to find lots of flowers. If you have photographs from your special places, please share them in the comments for this post. Wednesday, April 20, 2011, walk through Kentlands. Seeking the colors of spr...

Surrounded by flowers in Kentlands When I take my morning walks in Kentlands, I find that I am surrounded by the beauty of the early summer flowers.  A walk through the neighborhood is what I also recommend to our home buyer clients.  Look for those things that will offer the quality of life you are seeking.  Where are the schools?   Where is the shopping?  Where is the pool?  And, most importantly stop and chat with some of the neighbors.  If you love flowers, look for them and have your camera in hand for those special moments. If you have photographs from your special places, please share them in the comments for this post. Saturday morning, June 18, 2011, walk through Kentlands and Lakelands. The Art of Nature in Kentlands I always enjoy my morning walks through my home community of Kentlands and the neighboring community of Lakelands in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  Daily walks are good for my health and when I direct my mind to photographing flowers along the way, the experience is even more enjoyable.  Sometimes, great beauty may be found in a single, ordinary, random flower.  A single flower may be a work of art. If you have photographs from your favorite places, please share them in the comments for this post.  Always have your camera handy for those special moments. Saturday Flowers & The Story of The Elephant The Story of The Elephant The elephant is the strongest "Athlete" in the animal kingdom.  But if you ever get backstage at a circus, you'll notice something very strange about the way trainers keep the elephants tied up. Wrapped around the leg of the little baby elephant will be a great big chain; but wrapped around the leg of the huge adult elephant will be a little flimsy rope. The elephant trainer will tell you that after a few months of straining against a big chain, the baby elephant will finally give up.  After that, the trainer can replace the big strong chain with a weak little rope, and the elephant never knows the difference. Even though the adult elephant could snap the rope with one mighty tug of his foot, he never even tries.  Wh...

Wild or Newly Wild Animals in Kentlands When I take early morning walks through the Kentlands and Lakelands communities, I usually have a camera in hand to capture the colors of the season.  My focus is on the newly blooming spring flowers.  I do try to capture shots of any animals that I see along the way.  This good looking rabbit caught my eye because of the unusually fine coloring.  This does not look like a wild rabbit.  I would guess that someone released an Easter rabbit in Kentlands. Goat Grazing to be Used to Eradicate Invasive Plant Species    The City of Gaithersburg Environmental Services Division, in partnership with the Izaak Walton League of America (www.iwla.org), will be using goat grazing as a means of eradicating invasive plant species on adjoining properties at the Izaak Walton League headquarters on Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg.  The parcels are afflicted by overgrowth of several invasive species, including Japanese Stiltgrass, Mile-A-Minute vine, Autumn Olive, and Oriental Bittersweet.  Phase I of the project will use goats to remove the invasive plants and prepare the site for planting in the fall.  The grazing will take place over a 16-day period beginning July 5, 2011.  Following the grazing, an herbicide will be applied to targeted vines and s...

Close to nature in Kentlands I enjoy early morning walks through our Kentlands and Lakelands communities in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  Frequently, I have my camera in hand to capture the colors of the seasons as I discover newly blooming flowers in the neighborhood.  On Wednesday morning, I received a bonus view of two deer in the side yard of a Kentlands residence.  The pre-dawn lighting was poor but both of the deer stood still long enough for me to get pictures.  Life is good in Maryland!
