Romance Novelist Nora Roberts aka J.D. Robb grew up in this adorable bungalow off of Sligo Avenue near the heart of Downtown Silver Spring.  This area used to be known as "Takoma Park" and is now known as North Takoma Park with a Silver Spring Address.  Nora Roberts' real name is Eleanor M Robertson and her 85+ year old mother still owns this house.  She grew up the youngest and "an only girl", with a slew of brothers, who still live in the area.    Nora went to Parochial School, probably Saint Michaels Elementary, and then for High School she attended The Academy of the Holy Names  When she transferred to public school, the Old Blair High School, she met her first husband.  For many years, the family ran a very successful business, R&R Lighting on Silver Spring Avenue that her parents ...

With all the new developement in Downtown Silver Spring, more development expected, and the fact that we are expecting 2,000 to 3,000 more residents in the next 2 years there is a concern that our green spaces and parks will dwindle. As a dog owner I went looking for a dog park near my home in downtown Silver Spring. There are only 2 in Montgomery County:  Wheaton & Germantown. I went to the closest in Wheaton. I was suprised to find 35-40 dogs and their owners in a 1/2 acre fenced lot with gravel and a few trees and picnic tables. People had come from all over Montgomery County - Bethesda, North Potomac, Rockville, East Silver Spring, South Silver Spring and Woodside. The dogs were having a blast. My own pup hardly ever sees other dogs and had a great time socializing. Dog parks are b...

Through Dr. Rosswell Bowersett, Sr., and Dr. Bowersett, Jr., they have seen two generations of Silver Spring clients. In 1988, Dr. Bowersett, Jr., began working at Four Corners with his dad. Dr. Bowersett, Sr., worked daily with the practice from 1957 until his death in July 2000. He has been greatly missed by all who loved him. I am amazed at several businesses that have survived and thrived the rise, the decline, the fall and the current surge in popularity of "Silver Sprung", Md.  As a native of Silver Spring, I have lived, gone to school, played and worked here all my life.  I've seen the good the bad and the ugly times in Silver Spring. There are several places in Silver Spring that are gone but not forgotten by me, such as Billy Boy's Subshop, The Hecht Co., Hahns, Eddie Leonards, the bowling alley, the smell of the Heidi -Giant Food Bakery, the Hot Shoppes, the Old Armory Building, The Trojan Horse night club in the Holiday Inn, The Galaxy Room night club and Fire Fountain Restaurant in the old Sheraton Hotel, my Texaco Gas Station (on the corner of Wayne & Georgia), the Drug Fair, Solar Plexus, London C...

Hats off to the SOS (Save Our Seminary) folks in Forest Glen.  I used to love driving through there on my way to Bethesda.  I took their tour in the mid 1990's. It was like entering another world, wierd, wacky, whimsical and wonderful all at the same time, it reminded me of that old amusement park in Baltimore off Rt 40 called the "Enchanted Forest".  At the time I took the tour of the grounds, the Army was trying to let the place decay, so they could get the buildings condemed and tear it all down. The small handfull of people at SOS have been tireless and perservered for years against the United States Government, the US Army and the County. They deserve a ton of respect for what they have accomplished!! It just goes to show you what a few passionate people can do when they hang in th...

Ahhh .... Silver Spring, Md,  Unique, Diverse, Interesting, Rich in History, Revitalized, Historic, Charming and Modern all at the same time.  There is no place like Silver Spring and, with regards to Housing, still affordable compared to the rest of Montgomery County.  A Superb Location just over the Washington, DC line. Silver Spring is located along the north east border of Washington D.C., a sprawling area that was named for a spring with sparkling bits of mica. The eastern arm of the red line serves the four metro stops in Silver Spring, the Silver Spring station, the Forest Glen station, the Wheaton Station and the Glenmont station. Old Downtown Silver Spring has had an exciting and ongoing renewal, a multi-million dollar facelift that is providing a pedestrian friendly downtown a...

Hearthstone Village is a Condominium Community off of University Blvd in Silver Spring, MD.  The community consists of 2 Bedroom/2 Bath units and 3 Bedroom/2.5 Bath units all with 1 car garages built by Beazer Homes beginning in 2001.  I have been 'farming' and selling homes in Hearthstone Village for the past 3 1/2 years.  I have come to know many of the homeowners in the community and I hope they have come to know me as well.  I mail informational cards to the community every month and help keep the homeowners aware of their home values and the market activities.  My next endeavor will be to create a community blog in the very near future, where residents and homeowners can post information about the community and questions for me and others with interest in the community.
