Dodona Manor is the former home of General George C. Marshall and is located in historic Leesburg, VA. Dodona Manor was built in the 1820s and was the residence of General Marshall from 1941 until his death in 1959.  The home is furnished with many of the Marshalls possessions and items consistent with the time period.  One of my favorite items was the tv pictured below. General Marshall served the United States as Chief of Staff of the Army, Special Envoy to China, Secretary of State, and Secretary of Defense.  He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his drafting of the Marshall Plan which was instrumental in the economic recovery of Europe following the 2nd World War. My 7 year old daughter has decided that she wants to participate in her school's Jump Rope for Heart.  This year she not only wants to participate in the actual day but she also wants to raise money for the American Heart Association. Even though I am in no mood to fundraise, I am also a big believer in charity and since she is interested then I believe it is my job to support her philanthropic efforts. Beginning this year I implemented a $150 donation to charity with every closing. Today I opened my mail and actually got good news.  Prince George's County agreed with my petition and has reduced the market value on my home.  This should have a significant impact on my tax liability and therefore my monthly mortgage payment. Like many other people, my home's tax value was WAY above it's current market value and the new assessed value is much more in keeping with any potential sales value. I have had many clients that ask me about whether this process works. Now I can answer from personal experience.  The process actually works quite quickly.  We filed the petition in the beginning of January, a tax assessor was at our house late January and we received the decision today. I have registrered to participate in the 2010 Walk MS in Bowie, MD.  Sunday, April 11, 2010 Bowie Town Center The MS walk is five miles and weaves through the neighborhoods of Bowie.  Last year we had lots of fun and raised money for a great cause. The walk raises money for research, treatments, and programs for people with Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that impacts the central nervous system.  MS is very random in its course and can present a myriad of ways in different people.  For many people, MS creates difficulty with movement. Upper Marlboro MD Real Estate - Status for Week Ending 01/23/10 Upper Marlboro, MD, added 33 new active listings to the current inventory last week. The least expensive was a detached 4 bedroom, 1 bath home located in the Croom subdivision and listed for $75,900. Upper Marlboro, MD rental market is one of the more robust in the area. 4 new rental listings came on the market, and applications were registered for 3 of the current rental inventory. 23 properties moved or changed status into some sort of Contract status, while 23 more sold and went to settlement.
