675 President StreetBaltimore, Md 21202The VUE # 1905I loved working with Michael and Alex, finding their beautiful first home, and settling today! You can "hear" Alex's smile under that mask holding the keys!We got such a great deal on this 19th floor in this high rise in The Vue in Baltimore. We looked at different homes, including single, row homes, and other condos, but it was love at first sight when we entered this fabulous condo. My goodness, look at the views from the primary suite. It has two bedrooms, two full baths, and an open floor plan, so bright with the nine-foot ceilings and wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows, garage parking, concierge, front desk, and total gym. It is surrounded by shops, restaurants, and  Harbor Views.  And so convenient to Johns Hopkins Hospital.C...

Why perfect, because the new owner is another artist. Remember, this is a working studio. Located in the Hampden area of Baltimore, close to Roosevelt Park, this row house, according to tax records, was built in 1880. Check out the creativity of a working studio. Maybe I'm a bit partial since I was also a clay artist.Click To See PhotosThis home is a charmer with its whimsy pottery display, nine-foot ceilings, and stained glass adorning the windows. The first-floor laundry room also doubles as her throwing and kiln space: the wheel spins, the kiln fires, and voila-more handmade pieces. Upstairs are three bedrooms and one full bath.Notice the claw-foot tub when you cl...

We are looking forward to getting this artist's home on the market in the next few days. Located in the  Hampden area of Baltimore, close to Roosevelt Park, this row house charmer was built in 1880, give or take a year or two. I love seeing all the creativity of a working studio. Maybe I'm a bit partial since I was a ceramic and porcelain artist. The colorful stained glass counters remind me of other unique kitchen surfaces. This home is adorable, with the owner's stained glass adorning the windows and her studio on the first floor, where the wheel spins and the kiln fires the handmade pieces. Upstairs are two bedrooms and one full bath. And there is Central Air and warm gas heat. Stay tuned for photos. For more information on a Baltimore HomeCall Margaret Rome

Marching Ravens Auditions for 2022For those of you who don't know, I was a marching band, Mom.  My youngest son, Liam was in the Towson High School Marching Band for 4 years and loved it.  So, when my friend, Sherry, called yesterday to tell me that the Baltimore Ravens were holding tryouts for this year's season, I was quick to look up the link and send it to Liam.  For full details, you will want to check out the Ravens' website.  Auditions are being held on March 26 and you need to be fully vaccinated to audition and participate.  Musician applications need to be in by March 23rd so you need to get that done fairly quickly.  This is a great opportunity for musicians to participate in a marching band after high school and if you are Ravens fans too what a bonus that is!!

Baltimore Restaurant Week Ends February 6, 2022There is still one more day to support local Baltimore area restaurants.  Restaurants have been particularly hard hit during covid so this restaurant week is even more important.  And, the number of restaurants participating has also been reduced this year.  During Restaurant Week participating restaurants feature signature dishes and special menus for price fixed pricing for $25, $35, and $45 each excluding tax and gratuity. A few of my favorite participating restaurants include:Captain James LandingBlue Hill TavernPhillips SeafoodPickles PubPratt Street Ale HouseWicked SistersFor a complete list of restaurants visit here.

After leaving an appointment at a home with a fabulous view of the Baltimore oasis that is Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park, I had to explore the neighborhood a bit.Welcome to Hunting Ridge, a designated historic community in Baltimore City that was named after the high ridge that extended all the way through Catonsville. At one point there was a mansion called Hunting Ridge where now stands the Edmondson Shopping Center. All the roads in this community carry the names of 18th and 19th century property owners, like Thomas Winan, a railroad industrialist. Entering this charming community off Edmondson, you'll be greeted by a Tudor home built in 1928. I snapped the picture below out of my car window.. the power lines don't add any nostalgia (sorry!), but the 1920s architecture definitely does. It...

If poetry was a front door, it would look like this, wouldn't it? Two verses in poetic harmony, using similar lyrics to tell their unique stories. I am in love with these two inviting entrances spotted in Baltimore's historic Union Square district. They seem to greet all passersby with a smile. So much original detail has been preserved here. The projecting cornices with their wide brackets, richly ornamented, are characteristic of the Italianate architectural style, expressing the prosperity and optimism of its time. What you cannot see is the cozy vestibule that is enclosed by another set of double doors on the other side. This classic entry room has traditionally served as a buffer, to minimize heat loss during the colder months.  *********♥ It's always been the vintage, the old hous...

For expats, the Holidays can be a bittersweet time especially during a global Pandemic. When you are 5,000 miles away - give or take a few - your heart aches for a little taste (literally) of home, and finds delight in the German Christmas Village in Baltimore. My children and I stopped by the Christmas Village at the Inner Harbor last night, and I can confirm, this Christmas Market is very close to the real thing and complete with German food (Bratwurst, Schnitzel, Pretzel) and Glühwein. The warm spiced wine is a must, although it tastes better when the temps are just below freezing and snowflakes gently land on your gloved hand, and your nose perhaps. Besides the German sausage (my kids), the mulled wine (me), and the roasted nuts (all of us), we especially enjoyed Käthe Wohlfahrt at ...

Eight Baltimore homeowners - plus the Mencken house and Clay Pots - participated in the 36th Union Square Christmas Cookie Tour of Historic Homes last weekend, graciously opening their doors to curious, old house loving people like me. We got a glimpse of yesteryear as we toured these charming homes from the second half of the 19th century built in the Italianate style. Past and present owners have carefully preserved original features such as tin ceilings, curved walls, wood floors, English brick, transom windows, ceiling medaillons, cornices, millwork, wavy glass, shutters.. We learned quite a bit of history, touring the H. L. Mencken house at 1524 Hollins Street which is now a museum, restored and refurbished to take us back to 1940.  Henry Louis Mencken was an editor, newspaperman, ...
