A New Location for El Saltos in Perry Hall, MDWe have been eating at El Salto's Restaurant since, before my youngest son, Liam was born.  I craved Mexican food the whole time I was pregnant and we had been driving to a place in Westminster then El Salto's opened their first location right near our house.  I was in 7th heaven.  Barely anyone spoke English back then and the food was authentic and reasonably priced.  Today, El Salto's has three locations and I tried out their third location last night.  I had a late listing appointment in Perry Hall and Liam had a date so I didn't feel like coming home and cooking dinner just for myself.  I was not disappointed.  This third location is a little more upscale compared to their other locations, the parking plentiful and lots of seating includ...

Caffe di Roma in CatonsvilleI have a new favorite coffee shop and they don't just serve coffee!!  I had an iced spicy chai tea today and it was amazing.  The staff is friendly and fast.  Caffe di Roma has a nice selection of breakfast and lunch items on their menu and they have indoor and outdoor seating.  I live in Catonsville and can't believe I've never been here until now!!Located at 1719 Edmondson Ave in Catonsville near Rolling Road there is plenty of on-street parking and parking in the lot nearest Rolling Road too.  Check out their website for the menu and also their Facebook page.

Safety First Always!Chris Ann Cleland inspired this post. Her title ''Think You Are Safe Because You Work Strictly By Referral?''This reminded me of a call received a few years ago. The potential buyer wanted to see one of my listings, and he wanted to see it at 8 PM. Not a chance! I declined his request. Note: I did not know this person. It was dark; the house was vacant and on a wooded lot—more than enough reasons to deny any last-minute showing. And then came his mocking/sarcastic questions:  "Why won't you show me this house?  Are you afraid of the dark?"My quick reply: "No, Sir, I am not afraid of the dark, but.. I am afraid of you!"  I will be happy to set an appointment during the day with a Realtor® of your choice. What time tomorrow would you like to see it? He showed up the n...

It was 2013 when I met John Kleinberg, and we became good real estate friends. John, like me, was a solo broker. Over the years, John attended ActiveRain MeetUps, was a good listener and we have years of Real Estate Texting.   And we took many CE classes together at the various RE conventions and gatherings. It will be Sundays that I miss him the most.  John was texting me before, during, and after my radio show. Whenever we needed a confidential real estate ear, we could count on each other. This past Sunday, I dedicated ALL ABOUT REAL ESTATE to John. Rest in peace, my friend!     Here is John's first and last post: "Greetings Rainers, My name is John Kleinberg, broker, Homeland Realtors, Inc., 443-253-9306. I have been in Real Estate since September 1975 and a broker since 1978. Si...

Today we settled on 7 Green Heather Court in Stevenson. We found the very special buyers who were not looking for a home that was cookie-cutter or cloneonial? The more unique the property.., the more exciting.Buyers may not describe the home they are looking for, but they know when they find it. . They are waiting for the right buyer. Sellers often tell me...they knew it was the right place from the beginning...sort of love at first sight.  I love selling these homes with loads of personality. The most interesting people gravitate to these wonderfully special properties. We proved that today at the closing of  7 Green Heather Court 21208.Wishing the new owners lots of happiness in their new home!   If you are thinking of buying or selling an exceptional kind of homeCall Margaret Rome.

The 10 Best Days of Summer - Maryland State FairI love the Maryland State Fair, the exhibits, the animals, quilts, vegetables, and the food!!  What's your favorite fair food?  I think it's a toss-up between ribbon fries and funnel cake, well maybe cotton candy too.  Last year the fair was canceled due to Covid.  But, it's back this year and will run through Labor Day.Come out and support the 4-H Kids who have worked hard for 2 years now to raise their animals and make their exhibits and people in your community that have entered exhibits.

Woktopia Asian Grill and Wings - Just Opened in CatonsvilleIf you've been driving up and down Baltimore National Pike in Catonsville you may have noticed that this restaurant/take-out has been "Coming Soon" for some time.  It has finally opened.   It is located at 6023 Baltimore National Pike and there is plenty of parking.  Post covid there will likely be a few tables in the restaurant but for now, they are only offering Take-Out and delivery services.  You can order online at Woktopiaorder.com or through GrubHub and Doordash. My son and I stopped in the other evening after I picked him up from work.  Liam ordered Drunken Noodles with Shrimp which he liked the taste but not the texture, the noodles were very soggy.  The second time he ordered Calamari LoMein which was more to his likin...

How do you want your home shown? Just because there is a lockbox on the front door, there should be security measures in place. A lockbox makes it easier for a buyer's agent to see the property almost anytime. And buyer's agents do love this convenience. And many times, this works out okay.  How and when a house is shown should be discussed at the time of the listing. All of the following are true.-The more accessible the house is to show, the easier it is to sell.-Always make your house ready at a moment's notice.-They can't buy it if they can't see it.-An out-of-town buyer has no time to waste. He needs to see a house now.-The showing you miss may be the buyer.  But showings should also be for the seller's convenience; the homeowner still lives in the property. Most properties are not...

Notice the advertising below shows homes for sale, 'Too Late,' 'Sold,' and new listings. There is also a section for buyers looking for specific properties. The ad shows my tag line, my email, my website, my book, and my weekly radio show. My number is always much more prominent, making my phone ring.  The ad leads readers to the internet, and not everyone uses technology, email, or texting. Yes, another segment of the population reads print ads, especially real estate, and this group follows local advertising. There is more in an ad than just houses. Last week on my radio show, I talked about Dozen Assumptions in Real Estate, and after the show, I received a couple of calls, and one was about well water. One of the assumptions was that everyone wanted public water and rejected the idea of a well. But a couple of folks called to say they were pleased with their private water system. The main reason was they felt it was the best for their hair. And one went on to describe how their skin/scalp condition was "cured." I had heard about hair conditioning before but did not give it much thought. One lady called and asked me to find her a small brick rancher with well water.  And it was all about her hair!Another called for information on having his own private well on his existing property in Baltimore City.  I'm still researching that one...

The first question about a listed home is almost always:  How many bedrooms and how many baths? The bath numbers don't change but think about the other rooms.  How many rooms do you need that have to have a bed? Should you say the house has five or six bedrooms, you may get a response...oh, that house is too big!Time for more questions. How many will live in the house? How many rooms do you need? How many rooms are needed for sleeping? I have seen three-bedroom houses, and two of those bedrooms have three bunk beds. Yes, that house could easily sleep eight. But "bed" rooms are used for many other activities other than sleeping.  How are your rooms going to be used? There are times when only one person will be occupying the home but needs so much space. Think about how you are going to use...

I have been looking for a  Greene Tree Condo in Baltimore County, with a first-floor owner suite and a double garage for quite a few months. My buyers have been wonderfully patient, but today they asked permission to take matters into their own hands. In my search for this property, I have been running an ad, blogging, placed a call to the property management, and talked about this property on my weekly radio show.My buyers made up this flyer to distribute in their desired neighborhood. Finding a home for buyers in this market takes a bit more than waiting for one to hit the MLS. Thinking of selling your homeCall Margaret Rome

Families often choose to move to a new home during the summertime so their children can feel at home in the new place before school starts. It makes good sense to give kids the chance to settle in before taking on the challenges of a new school, no matter what their ages. Many years ago, my very special clients, Keith and Kim Holmes shared their tips for making a move easier on your children. Here are a few of their ideas: ''Most important – LISTEN. Children will give you all kinds of signs. Take care to be in tune with their feelings, fears, and concerns.   Be sensitive to their wishes. You will have hour-on-hour of “new house” discussions, and there will be times when they don’t want to be involved.   Make sure to involve them, especially in decisions that affect them. Let them choose ...

Over the years, I have listened to so many buyers and sellers about their wants and needs. I have heard sellers say their homes will be hard to sell because of a perceived deficiency. It may not be so.Always ask and don't assume. A dozen assumptions in real estate:  -Everyone wants a Single-Family Home-Everyone wants Central Air Conditioning-Everyone wants Public Water-Everyone wants A Finished Basement-Everyone wants Gas Heat-Everyone wants a Brick House-Everyone wants a Side Loading Garage-Everyone wants a Fireplace-Everyone wants an EOG townhome-Everyone wants an Inground Pool-Everyone wants a Lawn-Everyone wants a Quiet Street  For each of the dozen perceptions above, I have a story to tell.  Just ask. Please don't assume!Questions about buying or selling a homeCall Margaret Rome

Showing instructions on a property should be simple.Below is not an example of easy showing instructions.   The above were the directions in the Multiple Listing System. If you read it a couple of times, you can figure out when to show the listing.A more straightforward way to give the showing time would be  Available daily 12-8 pm.  When selling a home...please make sure your showing instructions are easy to follow and not like the one above.Questions about selling a homeCall Margaret Rome .
