The popular annual Home Expo event is scheduled March 5-6 at Canton's Summit on the Park. The event will be open from 9-5 in Saturday, March 5th and 11-5 on Sunday, March 6. The Home Expo features many of the areas top contractors, workshops on Do-it-yourself projects, and product demonstrations. Murray Gula of 1130 WDFN and Joe Gagnon of "The Appliance Doctor" from 1600 WAAN, will be broadcasting from the Home Expo. The Home Expo offers free parking.                             Did your tree in your front yardlook like this last Fall? Canton Township, Michigan is once again offering free vouchers for the purchase of a tree for residents. If your boulevard, the space between your sidewalk and street is barren because your tree has died or because you never had a tree, stop by the Planning Services counter or download the form online at: www.canton-mi.org/municipalservices/trees.aspx There are a limited number of available vouchers, and they are first come first serve. My Buyer stepped into a very nice home that they were anxious to see this past weekend. Their first sensation through the door was of smell of cinnamon. The second was a sign that said, "inside cats live here, please close door quickly". As we progressed through the home the cinnamon smell became stronger and stronger... as we observed every room with scented plug-in's. The odor of the plug-in's became unbearable and we had to cut our showing short. While I think the sellers were trying to enhance their home, they actually sabotaged this showing as the buyers could not continue to look at the home with the overpowering smell of cinnamon emanating from every room. Sometimes when we show houses our buyers bring along a friend or family member.  That family member or friend has their own pre-conceptions of what issues the buyer should be looking for.  I once had the "friend" going around flushing all the toilets to make sure they worked.  That was their number one priority on what to look for.                                                 Well today I was looking at homes with one of my clients in Canton MI.  She was a single woman who brought along her uncle.  Of course the uncle was pointing out every bad point in all the houses we looked at.  So it turned off the young lady. Today I saw a question on a national news morning show and I thought it could be about Canton Real estate.  Interesting enough it really was from Michigan.  The sellers were having to relocate.  They sold their Michigan home but because home values had fallen so much they didn't not get any money from the sale of their home. WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW? How do they buy a new home if they got no money from the sale of their old Canton Home.  My suggestion is to go back to the basics.  Get an least expensive apartment and LIVE BELOW your means.  Yes you have to go back to saving.  For many people that is a foreign concept.  But for all the people that have lost their homes that is what you have to do.  There is no more 100% loans unless it is a rural development loan. I thought I would share my journey of buying an Michigan investment property.  I already have a Canton duplex that I rent out to two different sets of people.  And many years ago I had a house that I rented out for three years.  So I will start So I do have experience.  My first experience of being a landlord wasn't very good.  THEFT ----   I only rented the house and kept the garage to store my possessions.  I even stored a boat in the back yard one year.  My tenants learned how to break into the garage and steal stuff out of it.  The boat was shrink wrapped but somebody cut the shrink wrap and stole the radio, the depth finder, and anything else that valuable out of it. The reason I write about flipping Michigan homes is because it is not for everybody.  It takes time to get the work done, it takes time away from family.  It creates stress at home.  You are going to be rushing around trying to get the home ready for sale.  You will be spending time away from wife kids and your wife.  If you have a "real" job it is going to take focus away from your "real" job.
