We have come so far our lives have changed forever or have they?   I stumbled across the Digital Story of Christmas and it takes the journey and certainly didn't modernize it, but it take update the methods used to see it! I thought you may find this interesting.  When you consider Ipods, Ipads, laptops, text messages, cell phones replacing home phones, websites, shopping online and the list goes on.  We have certainly had social changes in our media and presentation methods that impact our daily lives. I can't imagine my life without my cell phone other can't think of theirs with one.  I can hardly b elieve my cellphone has more memory than my first computer.  I thought that Apple 512 was pretty hot stuff.  Now realizing it was only a word processor. Take a look at this link and you wi...

On a beautiful day in April, we went on a day road trip to Grand Haven Michigan, which is about 30 miles from Grand Rapids.  Grand Haven is on Lake Michigan, it has a great beach.  If you won't take my word for it,  it was named one of the Top 5 Beaches in the United States by Good Morning America-Travel Mom and has hosted the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tournament throughout the summer months,  due to the quality of its sand beaches. It also has 2 lighthouses, connected by a lighted catwalk which runs along the pier to the shore.  Grand Haven is a Great Lakes port, home to a large charter fishing fleet, the US Coast Guard Lake Michigan Group, which coordinates all  Lake Michigan Coast Guard activities.  In fact, Grand Haven  is officially nicknamed, Coast Guard City USA.   Grand Haven Sta...

West Michigan has disappeared. No longer does the state look like a mitten. It is being called the Alaska syndrome. Word has it that West Michigan does still exist but it is buried under several inches feet of snow. The city's started disappearing first. It has been reported that each neighbor kept shoveling mounds of snow so high on each side of the drive that avalanches have occur ed and buried entire neighborhoods. Ok I am going to gripe. I'm unabashedly looking for pity. Most of you who know me, know that I don't complain. WELL I AM GOING TO COMPLAIN. I am sick to death of all this snow!! I get text messages sent to my phone whenever there is a weather alert. Mostly, it is for the summer because I have a nasty habit of driving into tornadoes. But I have been getting two and three we...

Memorial Day my husband and I, our two teenagers, and my daughter's boyfriend went for a walk out on the Grand Haven pier.  First thing I realized immediately was that I was going to freeze as I had forgotten my coat.  As we briskly walked down the pier I noticed a new building and wondered what was up with that.  What I found out was that was no ordinary building and that my little community was going "green"! Grand Haven State Campground is leading the way to providing a more earth friendly atmosphere in West Michigan--The Other West Coast!  Today is the big ribbon cutting ceremony as they proclaim to the world how progressive they are by opening one of the first  state "green" shower and toilet facility. So what makes it "green"?  The shower and toilet facility is equipped with many ...

Just got a call from someone looking for a nice Rental Spot. They are going to be in town for one week and we need to line up some Rentals for them. i don't have a lot of contacts in Spring Lake and Grand Haven who own Rentals, but i am willing to show them yours. They are looking to pay between 1000 and 1200 a month with a year lease. I have a couple that I am going to show them, but I would prefer to have a whole list that we can show them. So if you have anything let me know.

There is a lot of information being put out in the media about the credit crisis and the ability or inability to get a home loan. While most of the media attention tends to be negative, the reality is....it isn't as bad as they would make you believe. Please read the article below. I hope this clears up a lot of the misconceptions. Please contact me if you have any questions.     Financing Solutions with David Reed  Overcoming the misconceptions about the "credit crisis"You've watched the news and read about it in the papers. You know, the "credit crisis" and how buyers need 20 percent down in order to buy a home? And even if you found a buyer with 20 percent down, lenders aren't making loans anyway. So, why bother, right? Wrong! We're right smack in the middle of what just might be the ...

My first few blogs have been related to real estate so I thought it was time to write about Grand Haven. As I write this blog I am looking outside to a sunny, albeit, windy day. We have had about 7 straight days of sunny warm weather. Unfortunately, it is going to come to a halt for a few days. How do you go from 75 / 80 degrees one day and snow flurries the next? That is what we have coming within the next couple of days. The good news is it won't last. We have turned the corner and the warm weather and sunny days are ahead of us. This is such an exciting time as the trees have buds and the flowers are blooming all around us.If you like the diversity of having four seasons, Grand Haven is the place for you. You will have the opportunity to experience beautiful vibrant colors in the fall...

What a difference a year or two makes in the world of real estate. A couple of years ago we could get a loan with lower credit scores and finance the purchase of a home at 100% of the sale price and roll our closing cost in also. The actions of two to three years ago have put us in a very tough situation now. Unfortunately people were put into loans that they shouldn't have been put in. The housing market hit a wall and prices started tumbling. Homeowners that had financed at 100% or who had pulled equity out of their house found they owed more on their home than it was worth. Those that have to sell their home find they can't afford to do so because they are upside down with what they owe compared to the value of the home. While this is a very tough position to be in, it is not hopeless....

Are You Selling Your Home? Are you currently trying to sell your home in today's market? Here are some thoughts you should consider to get top dollar and minimize time on the market.Inventory levels are very high compared to the number of buyers available. That means buyers can be more selective and expect to pay less than where you have your home priced. Pricing is key component in this market. Do not over-price your home. Setting your price too high may cause buyers to not even look at your home. If they do tour your home and your price is not competitive to the market, the will move on to the next home. Remember, they have lots of choicesThis brings us to the next important point. Your home needs to be in top showing condition. While many people think this involves remodeling the home...

One of the best past times in the summer is boating on Lake Michigan. I love to walk the Grand Haven Board Walk and watch all the boats going in & out of the channel. You can boat from Spring Lake into Lake Michigan for a day of leisurely sun and swimming. From there you can go down to Holland or Saugatuck and grab a nice lunch and then catch the gorgeous sun set on your way back to your boat slip in Grand Haven. For some, their weekend cottage is actually a boat ~ whether it be a stunning yacht or that beautiful sailboat, most boaters work all week dreaming of the upcoming weekend of being on the water...sun on their back, warm breezes and mist spraying their hair ~ quenching their soul for the love of being "one" with the water.  I am most drawn to the large Clipper Sail Boats gracefu...

Well, I lived through the organization of the Card Board Sled race in Grand Haven to tell about it.  My first year doing the event was quit the learning experience for me.  I never dreamed so many people would come out and join in the day's fun activities.  We had over 130 sleds register for the race (with 1-10 people per sled) plus all the friends and family to cheer everyone on!  It was a great, great day!!  Lots of snow.  Lots of sleds.  Lots of wipe outs. Thanks to WZZM13 we now have this fun video showing some of the high lights of this Winterfest event.  Click below to view.http://www.wzzm13.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=86909
