Commissioners Tab Boardman Lake Trail June 9, 2015 By Beth Milligan   Traverse City commissioners identified the completion of a five-mile trail loop around Boardman Lake as a top priority in a Monday night study session devoted to public projects in the lake district. Jean Derenzy, Grand Traverse County Deputy Director of Planning and Development, outlined three public projects from a 2000 Boardman Lake Brownfield Plan that have yet to be completed. Derenzy asked for input about which projects should be prioritized and whether the city wanted to bond or borrow money to complete them -- or wait for tax increment financing (TIF) dollars to be captured to cover the costs. The projects include a new $2.2 million street – commonly referred to as Boardman Lake Avenue – that would hug the la...

And of course I’m still on a learning curve about Traverse City, so I’m spending time researching and speaking to people. I’ll be having a discussion with the city council here Monday. I ...

TCAPS Leaning Toward 2017 Bond? January 26, 2015 By Beth Milligan   Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) board members will meet tonight to discuss a critical decision: whether to put another capital bond proposal on the ballot this fall. Previous bond proposals failed in 2012 and 2013; an operational homestead millage mandated by the state passed in November, but doesn't relieve the district’s capital infrastructure needs. Faced with declining student enrollment, aging school buildings and a tapped fund balance projected to be at 6.5 percent this year (compared to the district’s goal of 10 percent and a proposed state definition of fiscal distress at 5 percent), TCAPS is facing tough decisions. “The community has already said no (to a bond proposal) twice: that’s the bottom line,...

Snow-Free Downtown TC? January 19, 2015 By Beth Milligan   Could downtown Traverse City sidewalks someday be completely snow-free all winter? The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) board has expressed support for splitting costs with downtown property owners to install sidewalk snowmelt systems throughout the district. The proposal also calls for installing a heated sidewalk system stretching from Horizon Books to Backcountry Outfitters. “We regularly hear from our patrons at the State about their battles to find a clear path ...

The giant, 26,000 square foot store will take the place vacated when Carmike Horizon Cinemas moves across Buffalo Ridge. Construction is now underway for a new, 14-screen Carmike theater complex, including an IMAX screen, on the north side of the property; construction on the new Lucky's will begin when the theater relocates there. This is why I love my job and my clients...here is a testimonial my latest sellers posted on facebook:   By the way a call out to our realtor Jon Becker Who sold our house in a week of its listing.  I must say his efficiency and no nonsense approach was awesome, All I's were dotted and all T's crossed. Having been self employed for so many years myself, his customer first service (reflective of my own.) was the recharge we needed among an increasingly bureaucratic and "Customer who?" world. It became very apparent quickly why he is on track to sell all his listings of 2014Thank you Jon.
