To all my Family and Friends I have out lived by Robert Swetz As a new year comes around and or our birthday rolls around we seem to always think about Family & Friends. For the last several years I have been thinking about all of my Family & Friends that I have out lived. Some were older and some 20 to 30 years younger than me when they passed. I lost my grandmother around 30 years ago, grandfather 20 years ago, my stepmother 8 years ago, my Uncle Donny, Uncle Richard, my best friend Steve Pieper 10 years ago, Jay Comisky 11 years ago, Kent Larson 8 years ago, Joanne Olson, Mike Casey, Mark Shuda 7 years ago, Ben Anderson 6 years ago, Brian Eggert 4 years ago, David Bowie, Prince, Tom Petty, Thor Lindsay in 2017 and the list goes on and on ... and how many more Family & Friends will I...

HAFA is another one of those terms thrown about in Short Sale discussions and pronounced Hoffa or Halfa. It has not been the most successful of the Short Sale program attempts but is far more successful than the loan modification programs. No matter how you choose to pronounce it, the letters stand for Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternative. HAFA sets a structured time frame for the Short Sale process but does not always hit their own goals. None the less, the financial incentive to homeowner's is a powerful carrot to dangle as the journey is long and stressful to a successful closing. But when it does happen, it is sweet!

This video speaks of love, sacrifice and bravery- both for those men and women in our armed forces and those they leave behind. Everyday those serving in our armed forces risk their lives to bring peace and stability to other regions of the world and to ensure that ours is kept here in the USA. They have marketable skills, they have training and educational backgrounds- they are employable- they could pursue an easier job back home, but they sacrifice for you and for me.  It costs them, it costs their families and I am so grateful that they willing go forth no matter what the cost. Their bravery and courage should be an example to us all.      I want to say a thank you from my heart and know that I will do my small part to help the families in my area that bravely wait for their lo...

Look it's Vegas Bob and we don't like his kind around here ...   I was born and raised in Minnesota and these furry creatures use to be friends of mine but now having lived in Las Vegas for so many years their afraid of me. What happened? I shower & change my clothes every day, brush my teeth, and do what ever I can to smell good. Nu Nu, Sherry and myself pulled up to these furry creatures in northern Minnesota and was able to take this great shot looking at us and then they started running, Nu Nu said they don't like me! I use to talk to the animals and living in Las Vegas so long I have lost my touch!     Post & Pics by Robert Swetz (Vegas Bob) - All rights reserved - 2010

To my C-21 friends ~ my apologies! Summer is winding down but the number of stinging insects, such as yellow jackets and wasps, flying through the air, have not. In my case getting stung results in a big ouch, temporary redness, swelling and itching at the site of the sting. Hoewever for a small number of people with severe venom allergy,  these stings may be life-threatening. The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) and the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) urge people who suffer from a stinging insect allergy to take extra precautions and to carry epinephrine with them at all times. "September through October is prime sting season; a nest that had a few dozen yellow jackets in July may have thousands in late September" said David B.K. Golden, MD, Fello...

When the former President Boris Yeltsin of Russia was buried, he had a Russian Orthodox service.  This is the first time in over a century that in Russia a deceased head of state was bid a religious farewell. The memorial service was held in central Moscow's Christ the Savior Cathedral and was attended by our former U.S. Presidents George H.W.Bush and Clinton along with dignitaries from many countries. Was the name of Christ spoken-was the plan of Salvation talked through- did those in charge of the religious parts of this service speak truth to the living? Funerals are for the living. At a funeral there is a somewhat captive audience that normally ,at least a few of which , wouldn't set foot in church on a Sunday. Don't waste this opportunity. Speak life to the living!         Photo by...

This is the first in the series of quotes to start out your New Year with wit.                                    The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery.      -Winston Churchill                  The only difference between a tax man and a taxidermist is that the taxidermist leaves the skin.     -Mark  Twain                         The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly is to fill the world with fools.    -Herbert Spencer, English  Philosopher (1820-1903)                There is no distinctly Native American criminal class...save Congress.   -Mark  Twain                                     What this country needs are more unemployed politicians.     -Edward Langley...

It used to be that  shoppers would wait in line  the day after Thanksgiving to get that year's dated Santa Bear. Dayton's Department stores later became Marshall Field's and are now part of the Macy's chain. My family used to visit the downtown Minneapolis Dayton's every year to see their fabulous  display window and floor Christmas decor.     I have several  Santa Bears and Miss Bear...

With the upcoming school year closing in quickly - plans need to be made  in the case of student illness or days off from school for working parents that have younger children in the school system. Arrangements will need to be made in advance for a day care situation ,  transportation, or Mom or Dad taking days off of work.  Here is the Brainerd School district schedule, so that you have plenty of time to make those arrangements ahead . Of course, snow days give us no time to prepare, so make sure you have a back up plan for those as well. Some times grandparents in the area, an at home mother,  or a  well known and trusted neighbor will fill in for those days. In the event of an early school closing, the younger child should have someone waiting at home to let them in and care...

James Munsch of Brainerd was preparing to start his freshman year at ND State in just 4 days when instead he took off on a bicycle tour alone to raise money for cancer  research for children  With a noble goal of $5 Million, he is now back in Brainerd with the $500 he raised and priceless memories and experiences.     The bike trek started in Seattle and ended in Manchester, NH where he ran out of his money and took the bus home.  He made it across 22 states and 6000 miles.     He slept in a "scout tent" which was a 9 x 12 plastic tarp attached to his bike leaning against a tree and a ground support.  Meals weren't much better.  February was spent in ND helping the homeless and gaining a new perspective on being a responsible adult.  He tells those holding a public office or those i...
