North St Paul, that quaint community on the east side of the Twin Cities with the big smiling snowman, has had a similar year over year changes from 2009 compared to 2008 as many other communities in the metro. New Listings are down and sales are up which equates to less inventory. The average sales price is down but not in a free fall. It is down just over 7% and with the ratio of price received versus list price going up, this eastern Ramsey County community seems to be making a bit of progress toward a more stable balanced market. The average days-on-the-market statistic is down by well over 10% so homes are staying on the market for less time. Traditional sellers that reside in North St. Paul who are considering a move to take advantage of the tax credit will have an opportunity th...

People love living in North St Paul. And I am not talking about living on the north side of Minnesota's capital city; I am referring to the City of North St Paul, located just EAST of St. Paul Minnesota along Highway 36. It is a quaint little town with a rich history that was founded in 1870 by Henry Castle on the banks of Silver Lake. He named the town's main streets after his children, Henry, Helen, Margaret and Charles. When it incorporated in 1887, 221 people called the Village of North St. Paul home. From those humble beginnings, the town has grown considerably. As of 2008, nearly 12,000 people call the City of North St. Paul, Minnesota home. Here is a top ten list of reasons why this community is such a great place to live.#10-Water and Electric. Most cities provide the basic util...

North St. Paul in the 1970's was a typical small town suburb. It was family and kid-friendly. We could walk to downtown North St. Paul (or "uptown" as my best friend, Roxanne, called it ) for a Coke at Perrault's Ice Cream Shop, a hamburger at Mac's Dinette or a plate of hot fries at Village Pizza. Downtown has changed as only Village Pizza remains from those days but the wonderful, huge, iconic snowman remains.Originally this guy was constructed behind the old bank building on the corner of 7thand Margaret. I remember when the first rebar steel was set in cement resembling a round cage that motorcycle daredevils use in the circus. We would stand inside and try to figure out what the heck it was going to be. I think it was years before the snowman finally took shape and became the icon ...

The wait is over and the decision has been made, the time honored tradition of the North St. Paul Friday night car show or "History Cruze" will continue this summer despite the construction on Highway 36.  For safety reasons with the limited access to downtown and the detour, new rules and time frames have been established with a shorter season and hours for the event. The 2007 History Cruze will kick off on June 8th and continue every Friday through August 24th from 6:30 until 10:00pm. Though the short season and hours are a disappointment to some, for those of us who for the past thirteen years have attended the show, it is a victory. From what started as a small group of car enthusiasts, the History Cruze has grown to have hundreds of attendees on every Friday summer evening. Young a...

East and West bound Twin Cities commuters won't be able to wave at Frosty this summer. The North St. Paul Snowman located on the south side of Margaret St. on Highway 36 will be tied up in the construction project that will affectively split the town in two for the summer. The business community will remain open but the spring Crazy Days festival is cancelled this year. A temporary Detour Days will be celebrated in its place. Antique and custom car enthusiasts may have to find another venue this summer as the Friday Night Car show which is a huge tradition in North St. Paul, may not be able to go on this summer. No final decisions will be made on the car show until the construction starts and the organizers have a better handle on the traffic situation. This will not only cause traffic ...
