I love renovation projects and lucky for me I have been doing a lot of them lately for an investor. It's always fun to see old homes with so much character brought back to life. This project was in St. Paul in a great neighborhood. Sadly the house had been neglected with no one living there but now it is vibrant once again with a great family. My favorite TV show is 'Fixer Upper' and I especially love when they start each show with "Do you have what it takes for a Fixer Upper?" I do, I do!!  Take a look! Living Room Before and After:         Dining Room Before and After:        Den Before and After:       Office Before and After:      Main Floor Bath Before and After:      Kitchen Before and After:         Master Bedroom Before and After (the ceiling was able to be raised):       Kid's ...

There are fun projects, tough projects and sometimes you get the chance to work on both. I love tought projects.  This property was purchased by an investor to renovate and I was lucky enough to be able to work on it. The layout was quirky to say the least so a few doorways and walls needed to be moved but in the end it turned out great.  I picked out flooring, lighting, cabinets, counter tops, vanities, and paint besides moving walls and doors. FUN! This modest home is new and improved and ready for a new owner.  Take a look!                               Shar Sitter, owner Rooms With Style Home Staging and Redesign Minneapolis MN.CHSE and APSD Home Stager Pro Trainerwww.RoomsWithStyle.com952-567-1124

Usually I am excellent at buying concert tickets online. I know all the little tricks to scoring tickets, and often manage to buy front row seats. It's just in my nature to do it. When my sister mentioned Bruce Springsteen was coming to St. Paul and that my brother (who is dying from cancer and not expected to live much more than a few months) would like to see The Boss, I thought, hey, that's something I could for him.He is not a materialistic person. He lives in the same little 2 bedroom house that he bought 40 years ago when he got married. Still married to the same woman. His shoes have lost tread, but he doesn't replace them. His leather jacket is worn in places but it still keeps him warm so he wears it, although it hangs very loosely on his frail body. You can read more about my ...

A visit to Como Park Zoo just wasn't complete as a kid without stopping for a hot wax molded animal from a Mold-A-Rama machine. These machines were a favorite stop for kids with extra change for a inexpensive souvenir back during a grade school field trip in the 1960's and 1970's. (I can still smell acrid scent of that weird hot wax.) The price was only 50 cents back then. I remember taking my nieces to the zoo in the mid-80's and they were also intrigued by the squished hot wax mold of a Como Park lion or gorilla to take home. I was surprised that the machines still operate today...but less surprised by the price increase. At $2, it is still a bargain. Como Park is still one of my favorite places to visit year round. Whether you want to have a family picnic, play a round of mini golf,...

Spring is in the air and this week was the baseball season opener. So Snoopy in his Paul Molitor #4 Twin's Uniform is the perfect throwback Thursday photo for this week.  My family joined with thousands of other Minnesotans back in 2000 search for Snoopy. But the fun didn't end there. A parade of Peanuts Characters followed for five straight years. After we searched for Snoopy throughout the city of St. Paul, in the spring in 2001, we all tried finding Charlie Brown around town. During subsequent summers, we looked for Lucy and then Linus in Ramsey County parks, on street corners and even at the Minnesota State Fair. The Peanuts parade ended in 2004 whenTwin Citians asked, “Where’s Woodstock?”.  That summer we searched for Snoopy and his little yellow friend on decorated doghouses. Th...

Last spring I drove past an old elementary school I attended in 2nd and 3rd grade. It is located in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood of St. Paul's east side.  We lived kitty-corner from Mounds Park Elementary in a duplex that no longer exists due to freeway expansion. Yet this historic school house stands. It is one of the oldest educational building in the city and has been transformed years ago into affordable rental housing. The beauty of the old red brick school house brings back memories of our principal, Mrs. Winter, who monitored the lunchroom to make sure we at our beets or Lima beans before we had seconds on pizza.

There's an often used saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". With vintage antique advertising this is especially true. The owner has this rusty old metal sign advertising 7up proudly displayed on the side of his St. Paul home. Others might consider it too rustic for display anywhere! Another saying,"One man's trash is another man's treasure". These are things to keep in mind when staging your home for sale. Your treasures may not be the best decor to display. Home buyers might think them too trashy.

I’ve always had a thing for trains, as I mentioned in an earlier post (see related: National Train Day/Opening of the Green Line). I don’t really know where it started, though I suspect that it began, as it does for many while traveling in large foreign cities where rail transport is as normal as snow in winter in Minnesota. There is something about a train, though, that gives you a glimpse of a different side of life, one not seen from the road. It’s more rural, less edited. Rails cut a swath through the terrain in a way that’s different than a road, perhaps because their courses were determined much longer ago. With the renovation and repurposing of Union Depot, we are also given a glimpse into a different time. Union Depot is a historic building designed in a Neoclassical style, con...

The mortgage industry is almost cruelly filled with nearly impossible jargon.  Most of it is inconsequential from the consumer’s perspective and only serves to make communication easier for industry insiders.  However, when it comes to the concept of choosing an interest rate from your lender par rate, buy ups, buy downs, discount points and lender credits are a must know. Definitions: Today’s Rate – “Today’s Rate” is a myth perpetrated as a reality.  It is something the mortgage lending industry came up with because it’s an intellectually condescending industry that doesn't believe that its clients can do math or understand complicated concepts (which is hogwash).  There’s no such thing as today's rate, only “today’s rates.”  On any given day, at any given time, there are many rates wi...

Homes for Sale Near The Green Line, MN Article Courtesy of The Chris Fritch Real Estate Team ChrisFritchTeam@kw.com ~ 763-746-3997  If you're a native to the twin cities you have probably heard the hype of The Green Line. The Green Line is in fact a commuters way of being connected with the two downtown's, Minneapolis and St. Paul. The Green Line just opened for travel on Saturday, June 21st. It seems the reviews of the new transit train are a little mixed right now. With one broadcasted collision with a vehicle and long wait times for pedestrians trying to cross the tracks, it's evident that Metrotransit will continue to work the kinks out. The good news about The Green Line is the opportunity it poses for new home owners that normally commute to work via their car, or ride share.  For...

With Valentine's Day not far away, USA Today released its Reader's Choice list of the 10 most romantic North American cities and St. Paul, Minnesota topped the list!  The quieter, more intimate of the Twin Cities has both the charm of the river and the collegiate atmosphere created by multiple colleges and universities. It is hard to resist strolling down Grand Avenue and stopping in the eclectic blend of shops and places to eat, while appreciating the elegant historic homes nearby. However, I think the spot that most exemplifies the romantic atmosphere of St. Paul is Rice Park... one of the most beautiful settings in the world. The park is bordered by the stunning Ordway Center for the Performing Arts on the west side, historic Landmark Center on the north side, the elegantly restored ...
