Last night, I was honored and recognized for my continuing role as a Branson Chamber Ambassador at the 60th Branson Chamber "Black Tie Dinner", a yearly gathering of community business members. The event was held at the beautiful Chateau on the Lake with recognition given to Branson's top leaders, including the presentation of the Pioneer, Ambassador, Beautification and Community Spirit Awards. Branson is being featured on MTV because love is in the air! The famous Branson Titanic museum attraction appeared on the weekly MTV reality series, "Engaged and Underage" starring a young couple from Nixa, Missouri. The Branson episode features a wedding reception of over 300 guests at the attraction for the Nixa couple. The cost of a road connecting both the east and west sides of Taney County have been estimated at $25-30 million. The road, nicknamed the "east-west corridor", when completed will be four miles long with the intent of connecting Hollister to Kirbyville. The road will allow Taney County residents an easier route to Branson and Hollister and would clear up congested traffic at the intersection of Highway 76 and Business 65. Along this route, are many miles of flat fields and rolling farmland which may encourage builders to invest and develop more affordable housing for the area. County officials are awaiting two other construction bids before they make a final decision. 02/13/2007

According to the Branson Chamber, Branson is celebrating its most prosperous year ever with a record of almost 8 million visitors! Visitors to Branson jumped up by more than 500,000 in 2006, raising the number to 7.88 million. The report also showed a 6.6 percent increase in hotel occupancy, which was one of the largest in the United States. Branson amusements increased by 21.1 percent, restaurants by 16 percent, lodging by 12.3 percent, and theaters by 0.2 percent. Duane and Kay Gerken, founding partners of Gerken & Associates Realtors, attended the Capitol Conference in Jefferson City along with over 400 Missouri Realtors. The Realtors spent time meeting with their legislators encouraging them to oppose an increase in recording fees on real estate transactions. While at these meetings, Kay led 10 members of the Tri-Lakes Board of Realtors Leadership Academy through the Capitol Conference and meetings.
