Kirkwood Announces Hiring of New Fire Chief  (info provided through the Kirkwood email newsletter) The City of Kirkwood has chosen James L. Silvernail to be the City's next Fire Chief.   Silvernail, who will take over from Interim Fire Chief Larry Bierman, is expected to start May 16, 2016. Bierman was appointed as interim chief in October 2015, following the retirement of Fire Chief Tom Openlander.  Bierman has served in this capacity while the City conducted a recruitment process, with the help of GovHR USA. Silvernail most recently was employed by the Metro West Fire Protection District as a Battalion Chief. He has been in the fire service since 1997 and has served as a Battalion Chief since 2013. In that position he was responsible for the supervision of five fire suppression compan...

55th ANNUAL GREENTREE FESTIVAL INFORMATION:  The theme for the 2015 Greentree Festival is "Greentree Circus Parade."  The Festival is held annually in Kirkwood Park, located at the intersection of South Geyer Road and West Adams Avenue.  Here are just a few highlights, but look for the full schedule in the August 28 and on the Festival Website at www.GreentreeFestival.com. Kirkwood High School Hosts "Open House" Event September 5th, 2014 Kirkwood High School will be hosting an open house event on Friday, September 5 from 5-6:45 p.m. at KHS.  The community is invited to tour the new areas in band, journalism and ATLAS prior to the Pioneers first home football game when they kick-off against Lafayette at 7 p.m.    Band, journalism and ATLAS students and staff will be on hand to offer tours of the nearly 17,000 square feet of instructional space upgrades.   Tours begin at 5 p.m.  The most convenient access to the classrooms will be from the Essex parking lot. Kirkwood Community Center's Kicks 'N Grins Soccer Program My daughter started playing on this league when she was in Kindergarten.  She loved every minute of it until she switched to an all girls team in 4th Grade 9it only goes to 1st grade now though).  Don LaChance does a wonderful job running this and keeping it fun for the kids! Walker Natatorium Makes a Big Splash at Groundbreaking at KHS Electricity was in the air on Aug. 6, as rain, lightning and thunder delayed the Kirkwood School District “Splashbreaking” for The Walker Natatorium on the campus of Kirkwood High School.   An audience of more than 300, which included students, parents and community members, attended the event, which had to be moved indoors to the school's Denver Miller Gymnasium.   KIRKWOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUNDATION  SPRING FLING   The Kirkwood School District Foundation (KSDF) is pleased to announce the Derby and Dine Spring Fling will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 from 6:30-10:00 p.m. at Greenbriar Country Club. The evening is the KSDF’s major annual fundraiser.  All funds raised by the Foundation are used to benefit students and special projects that cannot be met through traditional public funding sources.  Some recent projects that were made possible through the fundraiser include iPads at North Glendale, service learning initiatives at North Kirkwood Middle School, and an outdoor classroom garden at Kirkwood Early Childhood Center.
