Maplewood, Missouri - Get your Kicks on Route 66 My fondness for Maplewood, MO started at an early age.  My mom would tell us stories about her years as a young woman.  She and her friend Helen were quite "hot" (I'll try to find some pictures) and also spunky.  They would take the bus from our rural community of Washington, MO and go on shopping trips to the Maplewood Loop and occasionally trips to see the St. Louis Cardinals.  Yes, they took the bus along Route 66.  It sounded so adventurous and "cool" to an 8 year old.To add to my fond memories, the first apartment that my husband and I had was the upstairs of one of the wonderful Victorian homes on Flora Avenue in Maplewood.
