We live in Northwest Montana, in the Kalispell area. We are surrounded by forest and see wildlife on a regular basis. We've set up a few trail cameras around our property. There are multiple ways to explore the Going to the Sun Road (GTTS) of Glacier National Park (GNP). GTTS Road is the 50 mile road that traverses between the East and West entrances of the Park. From the west, it travels past Lake McDonald and McDonald Creek, then goes up 3,400 feet through the mountains to Logan Pass, and then down 1,800 feet to the East entrance. Because the roads are narrow and require careful driving, it takes approximately two hours to traverse the road in one direction, and much more time if you're going to want to stop. We recently had the opportunity to explore the Foys to Blacktail trail from the Emmons Saddle Trailhead.The nearly 19 mile (one-way) Foys to Blacktail trail runs from Herron Park in Kalispell MT to Blacktail Mountain near Lakeside MT. The trailhead is located about two-thirds of the way down the trail, so it provides another entry point. From the trailhead, hikers can go North towards Herron Park in Kalispell or South towards the Blacktail Mountain ski resort.But first, you have to get to the trailhead! In Kalispell, you need to find Patrick Creek Road, which is approximately two miles south of Herron Park. You'll drive 9.3 miles up Patrick Creek Road to the trailhead.
