Fundraising efforts to help build a brand new hospital in Livingston has officially past the half-way mark, keeping construction plans on schedule for an October 2015 opening. The fundraising campaign, led by the Livingston HealthCare foundation, hopes to raise 10 million dollars to help pay construction costs on the new 125,000 square foot hospital. Livingston HealthCare hopes they can raise the targeted $10 million by that time. The total cost of the new, two-story hospital will cost around 43.5 million dollars. The cost may have been more, had the land its being built on not been donated. The Livingston Hospital has secured 36 million from a low interest loan financed by the Department of Agriculture and can help complement their funds with $500,000 in funding from hospital reserv...

Swimming instructor Dani Hendrickson smiles as she is hugged by Charlie Leonard, left, and Isaak Schuerr after playing a game of sneak at the Livingston city pool on Friday, Aug. 19, which was the final day for swim lessons. While some parents on the sidelines were thinking about their children’s future safety in pools and rivers, the kids were living in the water-soaked moment. “Whoa! I floated!” a boy yelled during a recent swim lesson at the City of Livingston Pool. “I know how to motorboat!” shouted another boy. Young swimmers fluttered about in frothy circles or chased fellow pupils when not directly engaged by their teachers. Instructors gently tempered their enthusiasm and directed attention back to the lessons. But as any swim teacher knows, high excitement is a given. And that ...

Mark's In And Out Drive In Livingston, MT Travel is a wonderful thing. You get to experience new places and people. You can return to the special places you discovered before. Or you return to places where you came from...like Montana. Of course, places change over time, and Montana is no exception. Except for my home town of Livingston. It seems to be stuck in a time warp from say, the 1800's? Well, maybe not THAT bad, but much of remains like it did when I left back in the early 80's. My trips home are usually pretty quiet. I spend a good deal of time at Mom's kitchen table, right here on the Internet, working on blogs, getting a signed contract (yeah!) and almost being bored at the much slower pace of life here out West! But today, I had a plesant surprise while we were running some...

For those of you that follow me on Facebook, you'll know I'm currently in Montana visiting my family. February is NOT my travel month of choice to Montana. It's 5 BELOW ZERO tonight and suppose to go to -11! But my sister called and wanted to organize a surprise party for my Mom's 75th Birthday. Yikes, I said. At the time that I am busier than I have ever been......UGH! And when I found out the plane ticket was just shy of 4 digits!!!! (Thank you Montana, Delta and ski season....) But away I came, and boy, was she surprised!! I don't have any of the pictures yet when she first arrived, but my niece is photographer, so later in the evening we did a number of poses. Look, it's free advertising for Active Rain!   The couple I was sitting next to on the plane asked me if I was in real estat...

Livingston, MT to See New Catering Service, Eatery Downtown Livingston, MT   A Livingston, MT gift shop that was known for advertising on billboards across the US has changed ownership and will be offering baked goods in place of the souvenir trinkets that once retailed here. Local business owner, Brian Menges, added Gil's Gift shop to his real estate portfolio which includes other Livingston businesses, most notably the 2nd Street Bistro and the Murray Bar.  In an interview with the Livingston Enterprise, Menges stated that he intends to renovate the building housing the business that was originally constructed in 1890 as well as to alter the name of the company slightly from Gil's Gifts to Gil's Goods.  Menges also added that the new store front would serve breakfast, lunch and late-n...

Remember The Faithful For They Are Our Friends Probably one of the best phrases ever said was about a dog...."Man's Best Friend." This week while I've been in Montana, you see dogs in a different perspective. See, here in the "country" dogs are still as much a part of ones life as, say back in Atlanta, but you don't see people with dogs in the back of their truck. They take them everywhere, and the just sit in the back of the truck, paitently waiting for their master to return. There are leash laws, so most of the time, you see them on one. But not always. Now that I have my camera close by, I just wanted to share these two images..... Remember The Faithful For They Are Our Friends

Speechless Sunday -- Montana Mountains Just arrived yesterday for a week visiting my Mom in Livingston, Montana. Flew into Bozeman and on our way from Bozeman to Livingston, snapped this one as we zipped along the interstate. A recent snow fall caps the mountains, but not really visible in this picture. There will be more to follow! Happy Memorial Day, and yes, I'm a day late on my Speechless Sunday. Shall we call it a Magnificent Monday?

Purchasing a home can become a hassle - between financing, paperwork and trying to find the right place. But for Livingston resident Dale Townsend, it has been a dream - a dream come true. Townsend recently moved out of his rental home of 18 years and into his own house he bought in town. He has more space for storing his bicycles, his six felines have more room to play, and instead of rental payments, Townsend now makes monthly mortgage payments. Buying a home is unique experience for Townsend because of a developmental disability that he has. He has been a Counterpoint Inc. client since 2002, according to Counterpoint Director Dave Eaton. "This is the first time Counterpoint has ever been able to support someone through this process of buying a home," Eaton said. Townsend, 54, closed ...

LIVEBLOG: Town of the day October 10, 2008 LIVINGSTON, MONTANA Of the 2,362 (give or take a dozen) Ye Olde Wild West towns I drove through today getting from Bozeman to the Black Hills, Livingston, Montana was the clear winner. Figures it was the first stop, just a half hour or so east of bustling Bozeman. Livingston is the right mix of new and old. Bozeman feels mostly new these days, being so busy and Cali-rado and all. Billings is too big and too ugly. Sheridan, Wyoming is great, but too western. (How much western wear do we actually need?) There were other towns. Boy were there ever. (I clocked nearly 500 miles today.) Livingston, besides having an abundance of great architecture, has things like grain silos that are still grain silos, restaurants advertising pot roast suppers and a...

People seem to love Top 10 lists.  It is considered  the "ultimate rating" compliment when your state or town receives some well-deserved recognition.  There are so many reasons why Montana has been deemed "The Last Best Place" (a household term to most of us in Montana since the release of an anthology by the same name in the late 1980's), and recently our nearest neighbor to the east has received kudos by being included in yet another Top 10 list. Livingston received the #6 ranking in a guide titled "101 Best Outdoor Towns: Unspoiled Places to Visit, Live & Play" released by The Countryman Press.  The authors traveled the 50 states to explore varied criteria regarding what makes a top notch "outdoor" town.  Not only was access to adventure considered but also how livable the communiti...

Seems like Montana's always on 'The' lists... and we're pretty happy about that! In late 2006, Bozeman was ranked #1 Dream Town by BizJournal.com and we're proud to say that we're still on the list this year. According to BizJournal.com in 2008, Bozeman is ranked #2, coming in just over one point (for quality of life score) below Torrington, Conneticut. Torrington was ranked #84 just two years ago. Other Montana cities on the Dream Town list are Helena and Kalispell. Now it's Livingston, Montana's turn... they are on the chart for "America's 10 Coolest Small Towns" according to Budget Travel Magazines. A portion of the article is listed below, please follow the link to read more about the findings. To learn more about the legendary Livingston, Montana visit our website www.ERALivingston...

Wade Dokken, owner and creator of the proposed Ameya Preserve development sold approximately 4,000 acres of his development to a neighboring landowner, Giorgio Perfetti, an heir to an Italian candy empire, which includes the popular Mentos mints. The Ameya Preserve is an environmentally sensitive development, blending culture and ecology and is nature-centered, with music and cooking programs, dinosaur digging, a planeterium for star-gazing, and other activities. About 300 homes and commercial facilities are planned in the Bullis Creek drainage, four miles south of Livingston, Montana, in the beautiful Paradise Valley, home to movie stars and other prominent figures looking to escape the crowds. Perfetti, the neighboring landowner in the Strickland Creek drainage, offered to buy because...

Ok, as you saw in my last post, I've become "hooked" on City Living! In fact, I've lived in several major U.S. cities, including Houston, New Orleans, Miami, and New York before landing in Atlanta, where I have been for the past 16 years. Also in my last post, I mentioned growing up in Montana....which is where I am right now....so, here's an entirely different view of the world.... This is taken at what's left of our family ranch. To me, it's just as awe-inspiring as the view of the skyscrapers are in Atlanta! Mind you, it's a bit more quiet, but there is still LOTS of drama, even out West!! (But I won't go into that here...it's a legal thing you know....) And you know you never see THIS in Piedmont Park in Atlanta......And if you ever need to book a wedding, or family reunion, this is...
