Aging in P A L A C EAsheville Style When considering NC Mountain homes, would you  be attracted to an age-friendly environment?  As an older adult, I have come to appreciate being in "healthy-built" and natural surroundings.  But how does that translate in terms of the "look and feel" of the place?   Design emphasis: Close-to-nature... where you can feel a refreshing  connection with the flora, fauna and land. Many mountain homes in the Asheville area are situated on sites thoughtfully designed to maximize views. And you can explore trails that take you to conservation areas where the sound of waterfalls call you. Best of all, there are  sunny spaces with southern exposure for organic gardens,  and aging-in place possible when you plan ahead. Look for terrain  and home features that mak...

Asheville Real Estate Journal Artful and Beyond the Narrow I hopped over to The Sage Companion Project- http://www.whitehair365.com - the other day to see what's new and artful. Beyond the narrow, this is an effort to reach out to creative people and a certain demographic you might recognize as most interesting if you follow trends in the real estate market- and work with "boomers" and "seniors"...people seeking an active lifestyle and creative choices within their environment.  Artful ChoicesI wrote about such artful choices not long ago: "150 Professional Services Performed by REALTORS® + Questions to Ask Before You Hire One."  Check it out if you'd like. In the meantime, if you are one person who is ready to fly beyond the narrow, you might choose to consider the choices for creativ...

For "Golden Oldies" It's Real Estate, Asheville-style!  “Boomers” are turning into “Golden Oldies” and I am one member of that illustrious cohort.  As such,  an article in  Forbes Magazine that focused on Dream Homes-  a fantasy wish list (money no object)—a grand kitchen (of course) with two islands, a designer-inspired laundry room, (with a tiled dog wash station), an outdoor oasis with two sunken pools, an incredible dressing room— intrigued me... That  could be what many people see as AGING IN P A L A C E  !  janeAnne, "Golden Oldie"   Is a DREAM HOME IN YOUR FUTURE, Golden Oldie?  More and more these days I’ve seen VERY PRACTICAL Dream Home Wish Lists composed by my "Golden Oldies" clients  in search of  “the Right For-Ever Home.”  Here’s a look at a typical list. POPULAR Home Wish...

Art in Context- Staging with Wall ArtHere’s an interesting challenge: Staging with wall art that puts art in the context of happy residential real estate sales. Over the years, I’ve noticed that residential buyers often are impressed with what they see on the walls, and that includes  more than an updated color palette or fresh coat of paint. Buyers notice a particular artful nudge from the wall décor itself.  That may be the reason any number of staging experts suggest adding that very artful nudge.  But what if the seller is budget conscious?  That’s where online art studios come in handy. Good news for your client and you as art in context means stories and images that change when people engage them. In other words, art in context opens up buyer conversations.  But again, what if the...

HOME POST 50 My friend has been feeling the challenges of aging. “Sometimes,” she confided, “I feel like a chicken walking around in circles left out in the world-at large.” Of course, her analogy tickled me with its  bit of sardonic humor .    WISE CHOICES AS WE AGEIt’s important to make wise choices as we age.  At the Sage Companion Project   (  www.WhiteHair365.com  )  we place special emphasis on an over-arching concept of the value of each person - regardless of age or physical ability.  One topic  we discus is  “aging-in –place.”  This is a phrase used to describe “The ability to live in one’s own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level.”  It refers to a CHOICE by Post 50 People to  feel comfortable in an independent l...

Real Estate, Design, and ArtAsheville Real Estate Journal I determined to major in Interior Design at the University of Miami a thousand years ago. (I’m smiling.) Along the way, I discovered amazing homes, such as those here in North Asheville, and chose instead to become a real estate broker and BIC.   Still, that background in interior design continues to have  advantages in terms of being able to communicate a particular message or intention.  For example, I have been known to place docent cards around special design features in sellers homes we have represented. Communicating effectively to produce results is important to brokers, buyers, seller, and investors. Getting a message across to clients (intention) can help to motivate their action. But that’s not all.   A Discovery: Over ...

Asheville Real Estate JournalStaging for Positive Action There is value in presentation of a product, whether that be a lavish dinner at a restaurant frequented by those  who appreciate chef-level food, or - especially of interest to buyers and sellers- the visual appeal of a house.  I have always been interested in interior design and how it can increase the possibility for happy outcomes for buyers, sellers and real estate agents. To that point, here is a print from a large canvas I did a number of years ago where I was trying to work out how angles and circles could not only compliment but complement each other. Today, as I look back at this canvas, I am thinking that art invites us to respond and inquire. Whether we are old hands or neophytes, art encourages us to see patterns and r...

Asheville Real Estate Journal . Over at the River Arts District, you will encounter artists in various mediums. Many of our clients are looking at how to "age-in-place" while staying engaged. In fact, if you are out and about around Asheville, you may notice a nod to DESIGN. Creative People live here, and are happy to share ideas with you.                                                                https://zsanan-narrin.pixels.com/Interior Design ThemesThat's where many professionals suggest the use of color and design elements that are bold to "keep the conversation going." We'll be checking on that. In the meantime, it seems to make sense that turning your ideas into reality in terms of fabric design - (I'm thinking a nifty shower curtain, or a gathering of pillows, for example)- c...

Asheville Real Estate Journal DESIGN THEMES, 2018 If you are interested in trends for interior design, you may have noted  a certain Post-Impressionist factor.   As you visit residential properties on the leading edge of today's perspectives, there is  a definite nod to the pursuit of and expression of design elements  characterized by solid patches of color and clearly defined forms.   This design style works well across generations and brings into focus themes and images of  personal symbolism.  This is reminiscent of  the work of famous Post-Impressionist/Fauve artist Henri Matisse whose elements included the willingness to ,  sink their individual identies into what became a prolonged meditation on art and life, space, time, perception and the nature of reality itself. " Hilary Spur...

HOLIDAY SEASON MUSINGS on a gorgeous, crisp, almost-winter day here in Asheville, N.C.  A certain thrill is in the air and a metaphor born with the revelation of a “derived atomic model” as per:    "An image of the thin glassy film between two silicon nitride grains revealing individual lanthanum atoms attached to the grain surfaces... [ where a] derived atomic model is superimposed...."    This breakthrough also might be an “atomic model”  for a great burst of human creativity.  Surely,  scientists  making strides in the ceramics industry, are not the only creative people around. How about YOU?  There is genius across all fields of endeavor and with that pure possibility of positive futures for our mutual challenges.  if one of your concerns is "aging gracefully" be sure to check out o...

Mountain Homes and Land LegaciesInvesting in Beautiful Asheville, NC   1031 Investing in Beautiful Asheville, NC I am not a Qualified Intermediary. But I  have taken many courses to help me point out potential pitfalls, even though I am a real estate broker who specializes in LAND. With this in mind,  I can suggest that real property investors  DO NOT : 1) inadvertently indicate in a Contract that they  intend to live in the property, 2) sign a listing agreement soon after its purchase, 3) apply for “owner occupied” financing on the property, 4)  move into that property within a specified period of time, 5) ignore rental history (it must be rented by its tenants for a significant time) 6) claim the "mortgage interest" deduction for the property on their tax returns, 7) treat a 1031 inve...
