The historic neighborhood of Montford has many defining attributes that make it one of the most popular neighborhoods to live in and visit in Asheville, NC. Most of the architecture you will find in Montford are distinguished Victorian style homes that were prominent in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  However in the late 1920’s, a new style began to emerge in Montford that incorporated the Victorian style with a Neo-classical flavor that adds to the complexity and wonder of the neighborhood.  As a native to Asheville, I have seen Montford evolve as some of the older homes in the neighborhood have been renovated and restored.  There has also been an emergence of many Bed & Breakfasts and other businesses in the recent past.     Riverside Cemetery is also located in historic M...

The Montford Park Players presented a performance of Shakespeare’s MacBeth this evening in the newly remodeled Masonic Temple in downtown Asheville. My mother and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance and the venue. This season marked the 40th Anniversary of the Montford Park Players and judging by the program handed out, this theatrical group enjoys the patronage of many individuals and businesses in Asheville and the surrounding areas. The Montford Park Players are also recognized as North Carolina’s Longest Running Shakespeare Festival. Throughout the summer, Shakespeare’s works are performed for free in the park and I’m looking forward to enjoying both the plays and the fresh air next summer. While all of the actors did admirable jobs, my two favorites were Jason Williams (MacDuff)...

It's a big night in Asheville, NC tonight for my mother and me!  While she's visiting from Port Charlotte, we're headed to the Masonic Temple to see Asheville's own renowned Montford Park Players perform William Shakespeare's MacBeth.   The trip from Balsam (where I live) to Asheville is just a short 30 minute drive and it's well worth it.  Asheville has a pulse...live entertainment venues of all descriptions are available just about any time someone would feel like listening to live music, watching a live performance or appreciating art of just about any type.   Mom has seen live performances of MacBeth before but I haven't.  This past May, Mom and I traveled to Montgomery, Alabama and had the very best time attending the Shakespeare Festival in that beautiful city.  She should be re...
