We always look forward to touching base with LANDTHINK. We especially anticipate getting the results of the monthly surveys to which  other stakeholders and  Land Brokers have responded. The surveys cover subjects of interest to those of us who love the LAND- such as last month’s survey  that asked:  “What portion your investment portfolio is in land?? Here in Asheville, where Land is amazing, beautiful and special land gems abound if you know how to find them (I’m smiling)- any number of factors can influence a land investment decision.   And our experience as 1031 Like-Kind Exchange land  brokers has shown the value of considering a longterm strategy. But today, many  factors other factors can influence land buyer.  YES- investing in land is one (very tangible)  way to build wealth....

Asheville Walkable Neighborhoods Can Mean Sustainable Excellence for Boomers & Grandkids so we are big fans of walkable neighborhoods here in Asheville, NC. and what they can mean for body and self over the years   as you can see by this sampling of posts about this topic written… 1. asheville walkable neighborhoods: Asheville Walkable Neighborhoods Go One Step Further -  Here in Asheville, we are lucky to have many walkable neighborhoods and there’s movement in the direction of continuing the “walkability factor” when green developers are planning. Early Farming Practices in the Carolinas - Alive Today in Asheville ! It makes me smile to think that my ancestors helped to shape the farms, farming and settlement patterns of the southern Appalachian mountain region.  Maybe that's what drives my strong interest in preserving the integrity of our Appalachian farmlands and mountainscapes. When my ancestors arrived in the Carolinas in the 1770s, English, German, Scottish, Irish, French, Welsh, and Africans all were just starting to arrive.  It wasn’t easy, but these pioneers began to do the work of settling the land. They came first to the coastal areas of the Carolinas, then migrated inland. One of our old  family stories is of those early settlers-  my Far-Grandparents being among them. It tells of how they borrowed agricultural practi...

Asheville used to be known as the place to go to get well.  Look into our history at all and you will see that for decades folks from all walks of life flocked to Asheville for it's restorative qualities.  Asheville was known to have "good air".  With thousands of acres of national forest surrounding Asheville, how could it not? Today I was reminded of why folks did (and still do!) make Asheville their home or vacation destination.  I was driving into the office and watched as the sun rose.  I saw the tips of the mountains peek out from behind the blanket of fog that settled into the valley.  I felt the cool air, thick on my face.  And I slowed down - just for a minute.  I slowed down long enough to breathe and to remember why I made Asheville my home so many years ago.  I slowed down l...

We are also seeing an upsurge in interest in small farms and organic acreages for people interested in Permaculture and moving into the Asheville area. We keep a keen eye out for special finds-- level to rolling acreages with streams and sunlight for Permaculture, for example-- where eco-friendly development and construction may be ea...

Space, Light, Color-  Feng Shui in Trending Forever Home (aging-in-place) Forethought- ASHEVILLE 'S  BABY BOOMERS TAKE NOTE! With forethought, it is not difficult to include home automation, maximize space, and bring in a cohesive design to the forever home. That is  what you will see around Asheville  more and more these days.  Possibly our clients have taken note to and  enjoy reading Laura Cerano’s  posts with ideas that link colors, shapes, and items to functions. The idea of providing a structure and/or framework for thinking about a living space in something other than utilitarian terms has broad appeal. Cohesive Design Lately, at least here in the Asheville area,  it seems that people who desire to live independently at home have been thinking more and more about “aging-in-place”...

Think of it as  "ride" and "boomers" come alive. That's a saying one of our clients here in Asheville mentioned to us in a conversation about life after 50. We were intrigued! It's true- it seems that many older adults and "baby boomers" are, right about now, thinking about "The Clock". TRENDS: Getting Creative: As real estate professionals, working with this huge demographic, are you thinking about that, too- mulling over certain choices in terms of a "Forever Home"- and the potential benefits of aging-in-place? Much new information is arriving. Advances in the area of positive aging are on the horizon. We are excited about the National Association of Home Builders' Certified Aging in Place programs as an indicator of a trend toward "self-assisted living." Planned independence is a ser...

Choosing the right Real Estate Agent to list your property can be tricky.  As with any important decision, we encourage you to know your options.  There are hundreds of agents to choose from, all with various levels of experience, expertise and motivation.  When interviewing an agent, The Matt & Molly Team suggests you ask the following questions: Are you a full-time or part-time agent? What is the average number of days your listings are on the market before selling?   Will you service our listing personally or will we be working with your assistants? How many sellers and buyers are you currently representing? What is your Internet marketing program? What is your policy on responding to phone calls/emails/text messages? How much of your business is generated by referrals? What referenc...
