Most people don't know the Legend or how unique the Blowing Rock actually is -My husband and I visited when we first moved to the area. the view are quite spectacular. from what we understand the Legend come somerhing like this: The Legend It is said that a Chickasaw chieftan, afraid of a white man's admiration for his daughter, journeyed far from the plains to bring her to The Blowing Rock and the care of a squaw mother. One day the maiden, daydreaming on the craggy cliff, spied a Cherokee brave wandering in the wilderness far below and playfully shot an arrow in his direction. The flirtation worked because soon he appeared before her wigwam, courted her with songs of his land and they became lovers. One day a reddening of the sky brought the brave and the maiden to The Blowing Rock. T...

I think it's finally safe to say that the warm weather is here to stay. After a relatively mild yet long winter I really appreciate every day as a gift. The trees are finally getting green as you look across the John's River Gorge, chirping birds wake you up in the morning, the air is warm but has just enough crispness to it to make you feel like you're really in the mountains. Everyone seems to breathe easier and relax into the beautiful six months of weather that we have ahead of us. Appalachian State graduation was last weekend. That's right, the kids are out for the summer. I'm always surprised at how early the college kids get out of school, when the other schools in the area still have another month. Boone is hardly a ghost town though. In addition to the students that decide to s...

So yesterday I am out working in my front yard trying to eliminate some stubborn weeds from the garden and branches from my view, and I look up and see this:   Needless to say I ran to my car, got out the camera, and started snapping shots.  After I took the picture I decided to eliminate that small poplar tree there in the foreground.  As you can see I don't have many neighbors!

It is an absolutely beautiful day here in Blowing Rock!  The weather is nice and sunny and this morning there were some really neat photo opportunities.   I won't be greedy, here is one of the pictures I took:   Since this is my official first post to this Active Rain real estate blog, I thought I would at least submit something worth looking at!  ;-) Walk in traffic is pretty heavy today, with some inquiriers from South Carolina, Charlotte, and Hickory.  The biggest question of the day I am hearing is:  Do you have any property with a view?  Yes!  Absolutely, that is one of the greatest things about purchasing real estate in Blowing Rock.  Finding homes with unbelievable views is not as hard as you think.  With the way the mountain sets here and the way the Blue Ridge is oriented, view...

Blowing Rock North Carolina has an active real estate market. For buyers this is an excellent time to purchase a mountain home because of the great selection of properties that are currently available. The property values in Watauga County have been holding steady even though many other cities around the country have seen a market adjustment. The reason Blowing Rock property values are holding steady is due in part to the popularity of this quaint mountain town as a vacation destination. Many of the people who are purchasing property in the Blowing Rock area do so by choice, they want to be in a place that has cooler temperatures in the summer. Considering that mortgage rates are at historically low levels it's a fantastic time for the savvy real estate investor to buy a mountain proper...

Come and visit Grandfather Mountain for one dollar a head through April. There's only one catch... you have to be a resident of Mitchell, Avery, Watauga, Wilkes, Alleghany or Ashe counties. If you're not just be in the car with someone who is. As long as someone in the car has proof of residency, you're in. April is the month that Grandfather Mountain reaches out to the locals who might not get there any other time of year without an incentive. So come on out! If you're not a local, make friends with someone who is. It's a great opportunity to check out the park. Spend a day exploring the hiking trails.   Check out the animals like bears, cougars, deer, river otters and bald eagles in their natural habitat. This family of otters know how to entertain.  One of several offspring of the ...

In Blowing Rock NC, the last of the fall leaves are starting to turn brown and be swept away. And with them, the last moments of this crisp, wondrous, and yet brief portion of the year. Everyone's settling in for the long winter season. I think that we're all ready for the first snow, but with the unusually mild winters that we've had in the High Country the past few years, it's harder and  harder to know just what to expect as far as the winter weather forecast. Everyone from locals, to meteorologists, to the Woolly Worms are stumped. Regardless of how extreme conditions get, the winter is more than a change of seasons, it's a change in attitude and lifestyle. With the area boasting so many exciting outdoor activities, it's hard to figure out just what to do when being inside isn't an ...
