Well there is no question in my mind that the official beach season is open.  We had friends visiting us in Cape Carteret this past weekend.  I thought that I was going to have to carry them off the Emerald Isle beach on Sunday evening.The weather was so cooperative and the water had warmed to the point that it was nice enough to get any without a severe shock to the body.  I was only sorry we had not brought some beach chairs.This was the first time the weather was nice enough to make me want to take a nap in the sun.  I know our friends were dreading heading back to Boston since there were no leaves on the trees when they left much less strawberries in the fields.This is the time to come to the beach. Rumor has it that the shrimping boats are now plying the waters, though I doubt that...

My wife and I are both native North Carolinians.  We both spent much of our early years in the Mount Airy, NC area.  The Blue Ridge Mountains were just a few miles away.  A trip up to the Parkway was a normal thing to do on a hot summer day.  The temperature was often ten to fifteen degrees cooler.  Taking a picnic up to the Parkway was a great summer activity.  Then there was the trip to Mount Mitchell with it spruce forests which were like another world.Living on the side of the mountain was a dream for many of us in the Piedmont of North Carolina.  Still North Carolina is a state with many treasures and its beaches are among the best. Carteret County if you can believe the information on City-data.com is more water than land.  We dneed reports to figure out that we have plenty of water in Carteret County.  Cape Carteret is in the western side of Carteret County which has easily accessible beaches and plenty of other water.  If you are thinking about living in the Cape Carteret area, you first need to decide what kind of water you want to be near.Cape Carteret proper, which runs along Higheway 24 has lots of sound and creek access.
