Bald Eagle Spotted in Clayton at Portofino. These incredible pictures taken this morning May 3rd at the fishing pond at Portofino in Clayton. The pictures were taken by Norwood and Sandra Thompson the developer of Portofino and his wife, who live in the Red Roof Inn just in front of the pond. There was a female Bald Eagle here first and then she left and this guy swooped in. The fishing pond at Portofino is full of fish and every kid in the neighborhood has caught something. looks like they might have some competition in the future. Something tells me this guy will not be adhering to the catch and release rule!!! Consolidated announced it was opening a new sales and distribution center in Clayton.The former plant in Raleigh has been operating since 1957 and was not large enough or modern enough to deal with the tremendous growth the company has seen.
