I have been following the proposed Augustalee development in Cornelius North Carolina for over a year now. There have been some major changes in the past couple of weeks that can change the total outlook of this project. Recently, the original owners have had some issues with it's lenders and now have lost the opportunity to continue with Augustalee. Here is an article written in the The Herald that explains the lastest news on the project. The Michigan pension fund that took over the proposed Augustalee project Thursday predicts it can find the new capital and "additional development expertise" needed to "move the project forward."In a statement released by their Charlotte attorney Friday, Aug. 28, BUILD Fund officials said they also look "forward to working with officials for Corneliu...

Will It Finally Be My House? Thanks so much for all of you who have been seeing me through trying to pick this house up to be my "Home Sweet Home"...I can tell you that the President of First Trust Bank in Charlotte and the Senior VP of Finance were wonderful enough to finally contact my husband and I to send in our offer directly to them! I am not sure they knew what was being done with the home either so I am glad they are at least giving us a crack at it! It's not everyday here in Cornelius, NC(Lake Norman) that they sell an almost 100 year old home, if you are familiar with the area you know that really goes on in Charlotte...most people up here at The Lake look for the new rather than the old! Some people have already called it a money pit, but I think I secretly miss Home Depot &...

A Charming Classic Photo by Ted Wells Cape Cod Cottage (1750-1850; 1940-1950) Identifying features: Steeped roof Story-and-a-half house with single gabled ends Multipaned windows A ridge-centered chimney Absence of decorative exterior trim or ornamentation except for small window hoods and transom windows above the entry door Within decades after arriving in America, English settlers throughout the colonies busied themselves constructing homes that were familiar to them. The half-timbered English house with its hall and parlor was their model, which they adapted to the climate and natural resources of New England. What emerged over ensuing generations was a distinct new development: what is now called the Cape Cod house. Cape Cod style houses were built in New England from the late 17th...

Town of Cornelius - Cornelius Homes for Sale - Cornelius Real Estate   MLS listings Delivered to you for free, click hereCorneliusThe town of Cornelius, the second youngest of Mecklenburg County's six incorporated towns, was founded in 1893 but not incorporated until 1905. The Town's origin has been traced by many historians to a dispute over cotton weighing. In the late 1800's, two thriving cotton firms located in Davidson disagreed on whether an official town cotton weigher should be appointed. After a heated election was held and legislation enacted, a town cotton weigher was hired and the firm which opposed the appointment decided to relocate much of its operations just south of the Davidson town limits.Frequently after heavy rains, the road connecting Davidson and (soon-to-be) Corn...

Sarah Melton - Lincoln Times News (8/12/2009) Coast Guard Division Commanders Jeff Stewart and Mark Loftin get ready to go out on Lake Norman to demonstrate the proper safety measures for the new boating law that will go into effect in North Carolina. Kristy McSwain / Special to LTN   Mark Loftin and Jeffrey Stewart Jr., both of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, have seen all types of boaters on Lake Norman. They have seen the safe drivers who know how to handle a powerful boat. But they have also seen young teenagers driving boats around Lake Norman without parental consent. Some teens take the boats out while their parents are away. Others, even adults, think they know exactly how to operate in a boat, but in reality, know very little, making them a danger to others on the water. Lake N...

Maybe it is the Upstate NY girl in me, maybe it is the fact I love Dilworth...but, why oh why must any of the old houses on Catawba Avenue in Cornelius go Commercial? The latest is a listing for 4 old homes and1.5 acres of land combined for a whopping $2 Million Dollar Price Tag...Good Luck  Why Not Try and sell these homes as SFR to people who would love to restore tham and preserve a little of what Cornelius is on that side of Catawba Avenue?  That is the last part of Cornelius where you can feel a small town feeling...I am really not against change but a little Nod to what was here before all of us came up here would be nice...even going down Main Street in Cornelius down to Davidson...the push for sellers is they want to go COMMERCIAL so they can capitalize on more money for their...

Simonini has a new community going up in Cornelius.... The Preserve at Robbins Park!I am personally very excited about this community and the possibilities it brings. We currently live directly across Catawba Avenue from the building site and see progress being made daily. Check out the info below from Simonini.com The Preserve at Robbins Park brings to the fore an idea with deep historical roots. Namely, the concept of a preferred neighborhood bordering a capacious public park, first posed in the 19th Century by the pioneers of classic American urban design. The result is a study in elegant contrasts which combines the luxury of in-town living with a Lake Norman address. Which commingles the possibility of more meaningful neighborly connection with the demands of personal privacy. All ...

"Why is my home sitting on the market when it is priced to go?  It looks good!  I mean good enough for a rental home."  (Charlotte Landlord) This is akin to a father who wonders why his daughter doesn't have a date for 8th grade dance.  By careful analysis, he knows that her desirability boils down to three things: Looks ("Well, she looks alright... the prom is in a dark venue anyway.") Personality ("Some might find her generally contrary demeanor endearing...") Intangibles ("She got a C+ in math and almost made the swim team.") This is much like how some landlords approach things.  They figure that the issues with their home are minor and some prospective tenant will overlook them: Looks ("no one will notice the stain on the carpet and the dirty walls.") Personality- ("this 5-bedroom ...

Lake Norman's upscale Simonini Builders is adjusting the plans for their Preserve at Robbins Park in Cornelius because of shifting real estate trends according to a recent article in Business Today. While this may seem like a minor bit of news, it is actually quite significant because The Preserve at Robbins Park may be the first test of a major shift in future home building in the greater Lake Norman area that might actually bring us more in line with states like California. Several months ago I wrote about this exciting new development:The Preserve at Robbins Park:  Not Your Ordinary New Housing Community!  Simonini was already looking towards the future when planning this latest development in Cornelius.   So what are the new proposed plans and why are they significant? First: Pr...

Lake Norman Cowans Ford Dam created the largest manmade body of fresh water in North Carolina when it dammed the Catawba River in 1963. The total length of the facility is 7,387 feet, including more than a mile of earthen dam. The concrete portion of the dam is 1,279 feet long and 130 feet high. Lake Norman is an "inland sea" with 520 miles of shoreline and a surface area of more than 32,475 acres. Named after former Duke Power president Norman Cocke, Lake Norman is nearly as large as the other ten lakes on the Catawba combined. Full pond elevation at Lake Norman is 760 feet. The water of Lake Norman is used in two ways to provide electricity to the Piedmont Carolinas. It is used to power the generators at Cowans Ford Hydroelectric Station and by Marshall Steam Station and McGuire Nucl...
