You may or may not know that the waters off the Outer Banks from Corolla to Hatteras is known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic. There are literally hundreds of ship wrecks that are scattered along the shores and out in the ocean, some still visible to this day. During the early years of colonization and especially during the glory days of Black Beard The Pirate a ship wreck off the coast was a regular occurrence. Many of those wrecks have been found and documented however there are some that just rise up out of the sand after hurricanes or nor-easters that know one has ever seen before. This was the case of a recent discovery in Corolla in 2008 when a person walking on the beach discovered some of the wreckage. Now here is question that I probably get asked more than any other. A lot of times it's not from strangers either, but people that I know and just seem to keep on checking that I haven't changed my mind on my lifestyle decision.   The shipwreck uncovered in on the beaches of Corolla, NC on the Outer Banks this past winter has been safely moved to historic Corolla Village, away from threat of the ocean. After taking time to study the remains of the wreckage, the ship which was once thought to be about 300 years old is now believed to be 400. At one point they thought that it was the HMS Swift that went down about 1698. Now archiologists believe that is could be Ghost from 1609.   06/04/2010

We ran out of the first batch of the 2010 tide charts in less than two months, and it's not even officially Summeryet. Anyone who has been to Carova, NC knows that driving conditions very with the tide. These tide charts are specific to the 4-Wheel Drive beaches of Carova and not the Oregon Inlet like many others. That is a question that i am hearing a lot all along the Outer Banks. Although it may be too early to say with certainty, there are many signs that indicate that appreciation may be in the works in Carova. Here are some of the stats so far:   -The number of sales in Carova for the 1st Quarter of 2010 were more than double what they were for 2009. -Of the last 3 Oceanfront lots in Carova, each sold for more than the one before it. -The last Semi-Oceanfront lot sold in Carova got the highest price since June 2009. -The last Canal front lot sold in Carova got the highest sales price in almost June 2009 -The last Oceanfront house sold in Carova got the highest price in over a year!     I can't say for everywhere else, but for where I sell, the real estate market definitely looks to be turni... 05/11/2010

Corolla is still in the running for being the 100th, and final  community ti get a charter school in North Carolina, The Corolla Education Foundation sent an application to the Office of Charter Schools in Raleigh back in February. Representative Owens and Senator Basnight both sent in letters of support for WEVS to the Office oof Charter Schools in Raleigh. At that time they were competing with 16 other applicants. Last Week the Office of Charter Schools a review board voted on the 17 applications, and WEVS was one of the 6 to make it to the final round. The applications have now been sent to the State Board of Education which will review them and choose one to be the 100th charter school in North Carolina.   04/24/2010
