You may or may not know that the waters off the Outer Banks from Corolla to Hatteras is known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic. There are literally hundreds of ship wrecks that are scattered along the shores and out in the ocean, some still visible to this day. During the early years of colonization and especially during the glory days of Black Beard The Pirate a ship wreck off the coast was a regular occurrence. Many of those wrecks have been found and documented however there are some that just rise up out of the sand after hurricanes or nor-easters that know one has ever seen before. This was the case of a recent discovery in Corolla in 2008 when a person walking on the beach discovered some of the wreckage.
