Quick Tip: Mobile Phone Photos of Important DocumentsNever be without crucial information again. Ever find yourself rummaging through your glove box for an insurance card or walking back out to your car to remember your license plate number? Here's a simple tip to save you time: Use your camera phone to photograph important documents and keep them in your phone's photo album. Your license plate, auto insurance card, and vehicle registration are all good choices. While your phone's resolution might not be capable of photographing detailed documents, those little pieces of paper we all lose are a great place to start. Remember-- if you photograph sensitive information, you'll want to be sure your phone is protected by a passcode or other security feature. Also, it's never a good idea to p...

MoneyWatch's Jill Schlesinger asked John Ulzheimer, president of consumer education for credit.com to name the most common misunderstandings -- and to tell us what will really hurt (or help) your score. 1. Paying Bills on Time Will Improve My Score "That's definitely a good start," says Ulzheimer. "But it's not the key to the kingdom." With FICO scores typically ranging from 350 to 850, 35% of the points on your score are directly tied to whether you're making your payments on time, says Ulzheimer. That leaves 65% of your score that has nothing to do with missed payments. "You cannot hang your hat on whether or not you are just making your payments on time, and assume you have fantastic credit," he says. 2. Carrying a Balance Is Good "I'm quite sure the credit card industry started that...

Great TIPS for after a FLOOD!! * If you have been evacuated, listen to the Media and your local Public Safety officials. Do not return home until authorities indicate that it is safe to do so. * Avoid floodwaters. The water may be contaminated by oil, gasoline or raw sewage. * Wash your hands frequently with soap and clean water if you come in contact with floodwaters. * Never attempt to drive into or through floodwaters. Your vehicle can be quickly swept away by as little as 2 feet of moving water. Many flood fatalities are vehicle related. * Be aware of areas where floodwaters have receded. Roads may have weakened and could collapse under the weight of your car. * Do not become a spectator. Unnecessary travel into the most impacted areas could hinder efforts of Public Safety officials...
