The View from Fort Fisher in Kure Beach NC I was Blessed today to have an errand in Kure Beach NC.  As I often do, when I'm up that way, I went on up to the Fort Fisher Historic Site.  I'm not really interested in history, I go for the scrub oaks, ocean and peace.  Not that the history isn't fascinating or worth learning, not at all.  In fact Fort Fisher is a fascinating place with many tales to tell.  There's even a ghost!  If you have the opportunity you should definitely visit.  From the Fort Fisher web site; Until the last few months of the Civil War, Ft. Fisher kept North Carolina's port of Wilmington open to blockade-runners supplying necessary goods to Confederate armies inland. By 1865, the supply line through Wilmington was the last remaining supply route open to Robert E. Lee'...

Lots of deals right now at Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. IRC just had a price drop of $ 50 K on an oceanfront home. It is now priced at $ 525K for oceanfront. These are 2003 or earlier prices. In 2005 this would've have been closer to a 1 million dollar asking price. Buy now for investment and future enjoyment - prices will never be this low again. Carolina & Kure Beaches - There are currently 395 single family homes for sale and this represents little change from February 1, 2011 and 8.4% of our total WRAR inventory. The average list price is $381,410 and decrease of about $8,596 from February. In February there were 18 homes sold, divide that by the homes available and you have a 21.9 monthly supply of homes in Carolina and Kure Beach. The average sold price for the month of Februa...

Shhhh.  Listen.  Do you hear that?  Guns firing, clashing of swords, running feet, blasting of cannons, screams of agony, moans of the dying?  Can you see that figure in the pine grove?  He's wearing a uniform of sorts, it looks to be gray.  Confederate gray.  What is he looking at?  You?  Can he see and hear you?  Or is he simply maintaining his post?  Wilmington was the last of the Confederate south's trade ports to remain open during the last days of the Civil War and the men of Fort Fisher made that possible.  Led by General William Whiting Fort Fisher was finally defeated on January 15, 1865.  A few months later the South surrendered and the Civil War came to a close.  Or did it?  General Whiting was injured in that last battle and sent to a Union prison where he died of his injuri...
