Every few years, there is enough rainfall that the Rocky Broad River, the main tributary for Lake Lure, overflows its banks and fills the lake to a level to cause concern for boat owners. There is little or no potential for flooding residences, because water can only be as high as the top of the dam. The general sorts of damage involve boats that have their tops compressed when they press against the top of boathouse due to the rising water. In order to alert us to such incidents, the Town of Lake Lure has instituted theCodeREDTM Emergency Notification System - an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications.
