Pictured from left to right are:  Jack Cousins, Billy Ray and Mitch "Flash" Melton. Ellsworth Stubbs left farming in 1935 to open a radio repair shop called E. M. Stubbs on Fairly Street in Laurinburg, NC which also became a great hangout for businessmen and retirees over the years.  In its heyday, as many as 15-20 people would come by the store to sit and get caught up on the local gossip and enjoy each others company.  This tradition continues on in 2010 long after Ellsworth's passing in 2004 with a good core group of the "Stubbs Club" that meet Monday - Friday from 4PM to 5PM in the repair shop that remains virtually unchanged since Mr. Stubbs' death.  His spirit lives on with this tradition with old friends and if you ever happen to be in Laurinburg, NC during their meeting time, t...

James "Coot" Pierce bought out his employer and has run one of the most unique stores in downtown Laurinburg in 1989, the McNair Town and Country farm hardware store.  This store, located at 121 Fairly Street in Laurinburg,NC has been in operation since 1882 and caters to the farmer in all of us.  He still sells nails and seeds by the pound, old fashion washboards, high wheel push plows and several new fancier cultivators.  What he gives you is plenty of good advice and if he doesn't have what you want, he'll order it for you. For the gardeners, Coot carries a huge inventory of plants that are pulled out on racks daily along the sidewalk for your convenience. Stores like Coot's are slowly becoming a distant and fond memory but McNair Town and Country is still a popular spot for whateve...

There are numerous advantages to selecting a good Realtor to assist in home buying, like... They show you houses on the market that match your criteria. They help in the negotiations to make sure you are getting a good deal They help you get through the home inspection issues They help get you through the contractual paperwork and loan processing They help you get your new home up and running with new utilities They help you get home warranties But... The thing that rarely is thought about is that they are watching the market for you and letting you know when the house of your dreams appears on the market.  This is so important but not talked about enough.  Most of the great houses only stay on the market a few days, even in a soft market and if you are not working with a good Realtor t...

One of the main attractions in my town of Laurinburg, NC is the college we have here. The name of the college is St. Andrews College.  It attracks people from all over the United States. There is a beautiful lake at the college and people go there to fish and to set and watch the ducks. Alot of parents take their kids there to feed the ducks. I was over in that area the other day and thankfully had my camera with me. I decided to take some phots to share with you of the lake. Hope you enjoy them. I certainly enjoyed taking them and watching the ducks.              THE COLLEGE IS ACROSS THE LAKE AND IF YOU LOOK AT THE TALL BUILDING, IT IS THE CHAPEL.

I just wanted to brag a little about the community I live in. Scotland County is a very nice community. The beach and mountains are only about 100 miles away. We are in between two major cities, Charlotte and Raleigh. We also border South Carolina. Scotland County also has a lot of historical sites to visit.  The name of our city is Laurinburg. Scotland County also includes the smaller communities of Gibson, Wagram, Laurel Hill and Marston. We have several festivals during the year. So if you ever want a nice place to live or visit, come see us.
