Maggie Valley, NC Real Estate News

By Susie Blackmon, Ocala, Horses, Western Wear, Horse Farms, Marketing
These photos were taken late Friday afternoon (10/30) in Maggie Valley close to Ghost Town. It was drizzling rain when I was taking the photos, and as you can see, our fall leaves were evident on the ground instead of in the trees. If you like creek photos, please look at my set of creek photos on Flickr. We have had a good bit of rain, so the creeks are great to photograph right now. The amount of rain we had recently, I am told, hastened the demise of our beautiful fall leaves. We also had a little early snow at the higher elevations, with a return to warmer, milder temperatures during the past 2 weeks. The locals tell me that the woolly worms are predicting a very cold winter this year. The 2009 Woolly Worm Festival in Banner Elk came and went and I wasn't able to get there, but I hope to next year. It seems our Fall colors are now fading and the leaves are mostly on the ground, but these photos were taken a couple of days ago in Maggie Valley, with some pretty 'colorful' results. The leaf colors are changing rapidly this week, and the leaves on the trees on this creek in Maggie Valley were spectacular a couple of days ago. The weather has been warm this week, and we have had more rain, so many leaves are falling off the trees (and I'm having to rake my yard again). Perish the thought. Here is a collection of some of my Fall 2009 photos taken in and around Maggie Valley and Waynesville in Haywood County, NC. Located in the heart of Maggie Valley, The Knolls is a peaceful residential subdivision that has some very beautiful and expansive views. These photos were taken late Friday afternoon (10/23) from The Knolls while it was raining. The red and orange leaves are really starting to pop. Market Square (Maggie Valley’s shopping mall) can be seen at the bottom of the top photo. ©Susie Blackmon Related articles: Legends Sports Bar and Grill in Maggie Valley Hits a Home Run Every Time! This photograph was taken late Friday afternoon (October 23), in the rain, in Maggie Valley. The leaves have been gold for several weeks, but the orange and red colors are popping out everywhere. Prime time for leaf lookers in Maggie Valley and Waynesville. The temperature this morning on my deck is a crisp 32 degrees (at 7:30 a.m.), and this might be the coldest morning for the next few days. Running parallel to Soco Road (Highway 19) in Maggie Valley is a beautiful creek that provides many 'creekside' views and homes. This photo was taken at the 'Ghost Town' end of town. The sound of the water rushing is priceless. Haywood County creeks are quite unique in that no water flows INTO the County. Every stream, creek and river in the County originates here. According to many, the most photographed view in the Smokies is in Maggie Valley. Early in the evening of October 21st I drove to the 'lookout' on the road out of Maggie Valley (Highway 19) heading toward Cherokee … known as the “most photographed view in the Smokies.” The Soco Craft building at the lookout is closed, but every time I drive by there I think about what a great location it would be for a restaurant serving delicious food. ©Susie Blackmon By Susie Blackmon Original posted on Bucking the Real Estate Trend.

No matter who you are, you will have a very hard time getting out of Cabbage Rose (1) unscathed or (2) quickly!! BE WARNED: Gigantic Christmas section … ornaments and decorations galore ... year-round. Cabbage Rose was closed the other night when I was taking pictures (thank goodness), but I can’t wait to visit them again to see their new Christmas ornaments. The Christmas section alone is worth a visit or three. Cabbage Rose is right next to the Festival Grounds and Guayabitos, and right across from Market Square. ©Susie Blackmon Posted via email from Susie Blackmon’s Posterous Related stories: Market Square in Maggie Valley Legends Sports Grill in Maggie Valley Maggie Valley’s Blackberry Winter Antique Mall Full of Treasures. Just before the sun disappeared the other day, I took a few photos of our little shopping mall, Market Square. Wore me out... so I had to stop by the ice cream shop at the mall to get the energy to get home. Market Square is very easy to find on Soco Road (Highway 19), right across from Cabbage Rose, Guayabitos, and the Festival Grounds. You can find unique gift shops, tee shirt stores, candy stores, coffee shops, scrapbooking supplies, jewelry stores, real estate offices, an ice cream parlor, and a photography shop to have your 'mountain man' photos taken. Legends has gigantic burgers, and is a favorite eating spot for locals as well as many return-visitors. How can you NOT love a restaurant with great buns, burgers, and chicken wings -- Bourbon, honey barbecue, teriyaki to name just a few. They are famous for the size and taste of their hamburgers, and have a delicious menu of burger variations to choose from. The Mountain Burger that I LOVE was delicious… served with coleslaw and chili on top.  Shirley Wilde, who was my lunch ‘date,’ loved her Grilled Chicken Wrap. Legends' new, much larger menu has something for most everyone, whether you want a snack or a meal. They have an extensive beer list and a full bar as well. Maggie Mountaineer Crafts is a great place to find fun (and hot) gifts in Maggie Valley. They have fresh fudge too (just sayin'). They have a great display in front of their store on Soco Road, so you won't miss them.
