Although bad news about the housing market is getting all the attention nationally, here in Murphy North Carolina I've seen a big increase in the number of new businesses opening, especially up and down busy Highway 64 West in the last few months.  Dollar General has built TWO new stores in Cherokee County - one in Ranger just off Hwy 64 next to Decker's Flea Market and the other in Marble at the corner of Hwy 19/74 and Hwy 141.   Sunrise Plaza, adjoining the New Happy Garden Chinese restaurant, sat empty for nearly two years.  But in the last few months, all the storefronts have been filled.  Murphy Mattress Company, US Cellular, and Pots o Gold are now leasing space in the plaza and T-Nails has relocated from a smaller strip mall just down the road. Nothing But Be...

Are we losing that personal touch? As I was going through my mother, Lucy McKenzie's home I came across a box of letters she had saved. As I sat in her closet I cried and laughed reading over the letters my father had written to her when we were small children on vacation in the North Carolina mountains at our grandparents home in Burnsville. Letters to my sister and I on other visits, letters from beloved aunts, recipes written out by my grandmother, special friends and other silly notes and lists my father had written. After I found these I copied them for my brothers and sister to have and relive the special times, stories and to re-hear the humor of my Dad. It really got me thinking how no one seems to write letters anymore. Sure we send cards for special occasions, but with email n...

Do you have a home for sale in Murphy North Carolina or Cherokee County? Will Country Homes and Land's Flat Fee Listing program really get your home sold and save you money?               Here's a testimonial about our Flat Fee Listing program from a satisfied seller: "Country Homes and Land Flat Fee Program proved to be just the answer for our dilemma in selling our home. We considered selling by owner but the logistics just didn't make sense. We've sold many properties in the past, but never in such a buyers market. In order for our home to sell we knew that it had to be realistically priced. The Flat Fee Program allowed us to do just that. Any concern that they were just signing us up to just get another listing without strong desire to actually sell the property was dispelled from t...
