IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT, APRIL 15, 2009 A legal challenge to increases in certain Beach and FAIR Plan deductibles and surcharges approved by the Commissioner of Insurance in November of 2008 is underway. The Commissioner approved these changes to be effective February 1, 2009. On March 20, 2009, the Wake County Superior Court stayed the Commissioner's approval of these changes and remanded the matter to the Department of Insurance to conduct proceedings to develop findings to support the Commissioner's decisions and create a record for appeal. Pending final resolution of the legal challenge, the Beach and FAIR Plans are proceeding to implement a roll back of the deductibles and surcharges to the levels that existed prior to the effective date of the Commissioner's approval of these chang...

Hello to All! We are experiencing beautiful, warm, sunny days right now.  The beaches beacons us to come and enjoy the warmth and to fish, shell hunt and sun bathe.  I am so ready. There is much going on tomorrow.  We will have a Chili Cook off at Franklin Square gallery and many vendors will be selling their wares.  What great fun!   Then later in the day we will have Live Green Music and Arts festival. If you are not doing anything...pop on down. Have a great day. Ginger of Southport

Why do we celebrate April Fools Day?  I have often wondered that ...especially today. I remember fondly as a child, saying to one of my brothers, YOU HAVE A BUG ON YOU SHOULDER! or something similar...and we would all squeal with delight.  Never have quite understood why we do this now as adults. If you have any explanations for me, please drop me a note and share those thoughts with me. Happy April Fools Day, Ginger of Southport

Today has been a glorious day here in the Southport ~ Oak Island area of North Carolina.  It is sunny and very breezy with the rain held at bay for the time.  Winds are hicking up to about 31 MPH.  Think we will sit on the dock anyway and watch the sunset.  Until then, we will watch the UNC/Oklahoma game and root for the Heels. All of the family were here to enjoy the Sunday Dinner. Wishing you the Best Day of All. Ginger of Southport

One of my agents just told me that she was blogging with a friend and one of her friends...friends....saw her site and asked if she was in real estate.  Of course, my agent told her that she was.  They got together and my agent sold them a house.  Wow!  Don't we all wish that it was that easy!  One never knows who is reading what we write.  Suppose we must make our information ans informative as possible. Hope you have a great day and keep on blogging. Ginger of Southport

Here in the Southport Oak Island area...Spring has sprung.. Flowers are blooming, air is fresh, temps are warm.  I feel rejuvenated during this time of the year having been through a cold winter.  We find that our blooming flowers are a bit behind those a further inland.  I think it has something to do with the water temperature of the ocean and bays that keeps us a bit cooler. I hope and antipate that this time of the year will bring buyers to us so that we can help them find their "place in the Sun" Good wishes for all. Ginger of Southport NC

Oak Island - The Town of Oak Island was formed in 1999 when the towns of Long Beach and Yaupon Beach consolidated. This consolidation gave it the distinction of the most populated incorporated town in Brunswick County. Although the largest Town in the County, a small town atmosphere is enjoyed by its residents. The foundation of this beach community has always been public access - consider the over 52 public beach accesses (most with parking), two public boat ramps, several areas to put in canoes and kayaks, an extensive sidewalk system for bikes and pedestrians to enjoy, recreation trails, numerous parks and playgrounds, a full service parks and recreation department, and youth friendly facilities such as the newly completed skate board park. Programs geared toward senior citizens are ...

The new Oak Island bridge is well on its way. It will provide much needed traffic relief and accessibility to the mainland for west end residents of the island and much better beach access to residents of the plantations and the county areas. I have designed a website to provide up to date information as possible on the new Oak Island bridge project. It features a photo gallery that will be updated on a regular basis. Click here to see the latest photos (November 15th, 2008) of the bridgeThe album is labeled "Moving on up" Click here for more information from The State Port Pilot
