Today was a great family day in the Harper Household on Beaver Dam Creek in Southport NC. After a great sermon at our church in Southport, we came home to enjoy the Oven Fried Chicken, along with Rice and Gravy, Corn, Butterbeans, Sweet Potatoes, string beans, rolls and  butter, sweet tea and homemade yellow cake with chocolate icing.. Such a treat... Then the Grandchildren played for the better part of the afternoon..built forts, with blankets and chairs, and Barbee Dolls. (Barbee and Ken's that must be 40 years old...(belonged to their parents)..) We were given out by 7:00 pm...  Moms and Dads came to save us.   Great Day ...Would not have missed it for the world..

How Old is Grandma? Stay with this -- the answer is at the end. It will blow you away. One evening a grandsonwas talking to his grandmother about current events. The grandson asked his grandmother what she thought about the shootings at schools, the computer age, andjust things in general. Southport the place I call Home..  I did this video to explain to other about Southport.  It shows pictures that I took and one of my friends did the video.  Southport, truly is a wonderful place to come and live.  Our temperatures are moderate and we do have 4 distinct seasons; Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.    Rarely do we have any snow at all, but when we do...it is such a treat.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGO9KZKLjOY  Southport...the Place I call Home.   This is my first attempt at this.. I love this place   Ginger of Southport

This is truly exciting to us folks in Southport..   The picture above is of Julianne Hough (in the hot pink dress) who was the lead actress. Josh Duschmal is the leading actor. I took this picture when they were filming the 4th of July parade scenes.   Tonight, Safe Haven, the movie that was filmed here this summer, had it's premier tonight at our Theater in Southport. If you have had a chance to read the book, you will know that the movie has got to be good.   It is a Nicholas Sparks book and was actually written about Southport.   Great love story and great action. Many of our local characters are in the movie.  It will be fun to see and to check out our neighbors and how they look on the Big Screen.   I have not seen the movie yet so therefore will report back to you later....

Satisfying Sunday..   This has been a very good Sunday and  I am so glad that I was here for it. The first thing we did to get up and start preparing our Sunday Dinner.  Then we got ready to go to Church.  Great sermon and then home to entertain guest for Dinner. I decided that we would have a Boston Butt Roasted, along with Stewed Potatoes and Butter, steamed broccoli,, corn,  butter beans and rolls.  Then for dessert, I made a 1-2-3-4 cake with chocolate icing.. Delicious dinner.   We then sat aroound and talked for the better part of the afternoon.   Quiet, calm afternoon..I love it..

I am going to take on this Challenge. Several of us have been thinking about this for the past couple of week.  Today I committed.   I have joined the Cape Fear Fitness Center in Southport NC.  It is my plans to go and work out with my associates for about 45 minutes to one hour 4 times a week.   Today, I was weighed and measured.  That was a real kicker for me but I am committed to do this and make it work. My goal is to loose about 30 pounds and to tone up my body.   It is fun to do this with other...so we will keep each other on track.   Ginger of Southport will be fit in 2013

Meg was very active in the Church, sang in the choir and directed Bible School.  She was very active in her community and especially involved with her childrens activity's at School. Drama, Football, dance etc. Meg was loved by many and is so missed by all.   Meg's Fountain. This was built in Memory of our Daughter, Meg (Margaret Harper Tuttle) who lost her fight with Cancer in July of this year. Meg fought Inflamatory Breast Cancer bravely and did not give up hope.   Meg was such an inspiration to many folks that are fighting still. She never gave up and was instrumental in making a success of the Cancer Walk in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was very active in her Church, Morehead Methodist Church in Greensboro. Meg was a delight to all that knew her.   We Miss YOU Meg..

I dont know what it is that tells us something is wrong with our bodies I mean seriously wrong with our bodies but Im glad I paid attention to that feeling. On Mothers Day this year (May 13, 2007), during a quiet portion of the afternoon, I told my husband Joe that I had some discomfort in my armpit, as if my glands were swollen. I had been feeling this for a couple weeks, and had been checking for lumps in my armpit, but really couldnt find anything. He suggested, and I agreed, that I should make an appointment with my doctor the next day. The next day, I woke up still feeling the swollen glands in my armpits. The morning went as normal&Joe went to work&I got the kids on their buses, and then I went inside to get my shower and to get ready for work. When I took off my nightshirt I f...

How do you go about writing your business plan?  Earlier in the year, One of my Active Rain Friends, sent me a link that let you formulate your plan by plugging in the actual numbers of listings and listings sold and so on.  I can not put my hands on that link right now and hope that someone will share it with me again. It is easy to use real numbers and then fill in with additional data.   If you happen to have a plan format to share, I would really appreicaite it.   Thanks,   Ginger of Southport

Today is a blessed day... The first thing that happened was that our oldest Daughter invited us to come to here house to have Waffles, Bacon and Eggs for  Breakfast.  She called at 8:00 to say that they had not water.  Something was wrong with the  water pump.  So I invited her to come here and do the3 breakfast and that would be fine.  After that, around 3:00...all of the children are coming here and I have prepared a Turkey, Sausage Balls, French onion dip, taco sauce, chips, cheese ball, fudge, peanut brittle, broccoli and dip, celery and cream cheese, pimento cheese and crackers.   I am sitting calmly with Jimmy waiting for the grandchildren to come over and open their gifts... There will be a lovely hum of excitement all through the house ... At present, we are listening to the Mes...

Tonight we had a glorious Christmas Eve Service with out Church Family and Friends.  It was a wonderful service where out ministers protrayed a figure in the Christmas Story.  First was Mary, talking about the Babe born to her and the feelings that she had regarding the Birth.   Next we had a Shepherd, who was considered the lowly persons, who lived with his sheep, caring and tending and protecting them.  He smelled of the sheep and people turned away from them.  But the Angel of the Lord came around them and sang to them of a Babe being Born in Bethlehem and that they must go and see this Baby.   Our minister...took us on this journey and we felt uplifted and when we left the service.   Jesus is the Reason for the Season.  We must all keep this in mind.   Merry Christmas.

Well...Today is the 2ost of December and I think I may go shopping for the first time tomorrow.  My Motto has always been.  Why do today what you can do tomorrow... Therefore, I think that I go to town and shop for the 40 folks that I want to share gifts with. Any advice...What does  one buy for the Husband that has everything...and if he doesn't...gets it when he wants it....Or our 16 year old Grandson that is 6'6" and 325 pounds?  And the Granddaugher that is a Sophmore  at the College of Charleston in South Carolina..A 10 year old that is too mature for his age.  A 7 year old that thinks he is as big and the 10 year old, a 4 year old that is going on 21 and a 2 year old that is just trying to keep up with Sissy.. This Grandma feels out of the loop..   Ginger of Southport

Today, after church and the cantata that I sang, Our grandchildren put up the Christmas tree that they found yesterday in our woods. Our son in law, brought  it in and Jimmy and I put it in the stand and stabalize it. All of the family came over for a Spaghetti Dinner that I prepared, along with Salad and Italian Butter Bread.   Fried croissants and Santa Cookies for Dessert.   Afterwards,  the Tree Trimming began.  Jonah the 10 year old and JOshua the 7 year old, put the lights on the tree.   Marissa and AngaElla puit the ornament on the tree.  Keep in mind that this tree was grown in nature, by God's hands and he sculpted it as he chose.  We chose it.  In other words the Tree is Perfect...Anyone that sees these ornatment from 1 foot to 4 feet will agree.   God Bless Each and EveryOne....

Today, we are going to the woods that we have with the Grandchildren, to find the perfect tree and bring it home. WE will then put the tree in the tree stand, build a fire (It is 42 degrees here right now), put on the Christmas music, pull out the decorations that we have had for 40 years, and let the Children decorate.  Jimmy puts the Angel  on top, Gina does the lights and the little ones put on the balls, bells, other angels, Santa clauses etc.  Then I put the gifts that I have wrapped under the tree. WE then sit around with some refreshments and just stare at our tree lovingly, and listen to the wonderful songs we love for Christmas. It is the most beautiful tree in the world when they are finished...even though most of the decorations are about 3 feet high. This is what Christmas i...

I was just wondering if anyone else was having the same problem that I am having it posting a blog.   The first thing I do is to Title the Blog... Then I write it, do the tag, make it visible, do the Hyper-Local Pages, Active Rain Channels, My Group and Categories.. Then I post the Blog.    When I do that, It says that I have to put a Title to it...and my Blog is Gone..   What I am having to do is to copy my Blog, so that when it disappears, I can paste it right back into the Entry Box.  I was getting very frustrated because, at first I did not do the copy...and I lost everything and then had to reconstruct the Blog.   Is any one else having this problem or is it just me..   Thanks, Ginger of Southport

Pearl Harbor...   A Horrible Time in the lives of our Parents.. My Father and Mother lived through this terrible time in the History of the United States. I try to read all that I can about the History of this time and there are loads of books that tell about the events that lead up to this.   I do hope and Pray that we will never have a World War as that was.  911 was the closest that I have come to seeing and feeling WAR up close and personal.. God Bless OUR Troops..
