Today was our traditional  Labor Day Crab Derby.... I took 3 of our grandchildren...with nets, and string and chicken legs to the dock in Southport's Small Boat Harbor.  It was great fun.  Jonah age 8, Joshua age 4 and Marissa age 2...What a trip.  I will try to post pictures a bit later. We caught a total of about 12 crabs.  Each of the children won a T-Shirt and loved it!   Happy Labor Day.. Ginger of Southport..

Today was an extraordinary day with the younger grandchildren.  They live here locally but we do play an active part in there upbringing since the daddy works on Saturdays. They arrive at 10:00 and there was much to do in Southport NC today.  There was a wooden sale boat race that started at 1:00.  We decided to go and watch the beginning of the race.    Joshua, who is 4 and Marissa who is 2...could not wait to see the sails being raised to begin the race. We were there and watched it all happen...They were so excited..me too..just tired now.   Ginger of Southport

125 immigrants took the oath of allegiance at Sunday afternoon at Ft. Johnson in Southport, NC.  These 125 new American citizens represented 52 countries from around the world.  For the past few years, this ceremony has been incorporated into the Southport, NC annual 4th of July parade which has grown in leaps and bounds.  The festival committee and the Dept. of Homeland Security co-chair this event.  One new citizen said it is a very hard to give up allegiance to one's mother country and give it to another.  Some had relatives who traveled as far away as Kenya to see them take the Oath.  Southport is a quaint, little picturesque town surrounded by ocean views at the harbor.  It is the gateway to Bald Head Island, and is located halfway between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach...closer to Wi...

Southport, North Carolina represents every small hometown celebration of the 4th of July.  I had business in St. James today so I decided to ride on down to Southport.  If you have never been, Southport is located between Wilmington and Shallotte, NC.  When you turn off highway 17, the drive is straight down to the wharf at Southport.  Until several years ago, it was a sleepy little town full of old Southern historic homes, antique shops, bohemian restaurants, and touristy gift shops.  The population blossomed in the Spring and Summer and dwindled in the Fall and died in the winter.  Of course, full time residents probably love it when it is finally quiet.  The town's other source of fame is as gateway to Bald Head Island.  A ferry furnishes transport all during the day...the views of ...

I just had to share this with you.. A low-budget jewel. Way cool   This is the new "wear your seatbelt" ad the UK is doing - started by some dude not hired to do it, but because the cause is important to him, he came up with this idea, and now it's being hailed across the world as a 'beautiful' commercial. And now the video has gone "viral" - which  means, has become so popular with the general public that people are forwarding it to friends/family on their own so quickly that it has spread all over  the world in a very short time.GO TO:   http://embracethis.co.uk  Ginger of Southport..

Southport is one of the most beautiful & charming small towns in North Carolina. Visitors flock to Southport's picturesque tree-lined streets to explore its many restaurants, shops, marina, yacht basin & historic attractions. Hundreds of years ago, pirates & explorers visited the area. Today, it's convenient location, where the Atlantic Ocean, Intracoastal Waterway, & Cape Fear River meet, is still very popular with mariners. Ginger Harper with Coldwell Banker Sea Coast Realty has been a Southport resident for 27 years & shares some of her favorite things to do there.   Photos courtesy of Jim Harper.

In loving memory of every cancer patient, family, and friends who have lost the battle of cancer and the ones who continue to conquer it! Put this on your page if you know someone who has or had cancer.  Dear God, I pray for the cure of cancer. Amen. 93% won't copy and paste this. I did, but will you? So many loved ones..., too many to name. They are all in my thoughts.    Ginger of Southport

I do thank GOD for the sunsets that we have here at our home.  WE are located on Beaver Dam Creek in Southport North Carolina.  Beaver Dam is a tidal creek and we enjoy the tides with brackish water.  Many different kinds of fish are in the creek and it is most delightful to catch puppy drum or flounder off the end of the dock, come in and fix a seafood dinner. WE need to all, smell the roses, watch the sunsets and enjoy one another. Ginger of Southport
