Oh what a glorious day..raining...and cool...and damp. But I am not going to let that dampen my spirits. I know that in May the flowers are going to be beautiful.  I must have a thousand Azaleas and Camellias that will bloom in my yard.  It will be pretty for the Easter Holidays but the peak will come in May.  Orton Plantation is getting ready to be in full bloom.  If you should be in the area, check it out. Spring is bring us some buyers, finally.  It seems that we have been all frozen out of the real estate market but in the past week or so, buyers are returning to our warm shores once again.  Fishing is good right now off the piers of Oak Island and surf casting has always been a favorite of mine, especially on East Beach on Bald Head Island.  A couple of years ago, I caught a 42 pound Drum.  What a treat.  Problem being that the fish was too big to keep according to NC Wildlife and Fisheries.  We had to throw him back.   Happy Fishing to you all. Who doesn't love Spring? Although Fall is really my favorite season, it's hard to deny the tangible pulse of Mother Nature sending out sneak previews before the real show begins. Our big ol' live oaks are slow to bud out. They're in the process of shedding all of last year's leaves so I'm out raking to beat the band, knowing that next week I'll be doing it all over again. Around our house, the real tell-tale sign of Spring is the massive, porch-swaddling weave of wisteria that demands the full attention of anyone it comes in contact with. I've come to love it in it's pre-purple state almost as much as when it's in full bloom. How does one plant have all the energy to do what you see here? Our company is getting ready to do an Open House Extravaganza April 18 and 19th. I am trying to come up with some very unusual ideas that will set my properties apart and draw more attention.   Lazy Rainy Saturday Today has been one of those days that you cherish. Actually, we were up early and getting the grandchildren ready for the EASTER EGG HUNT on the GARRISON grounds in Southport.  I had the 3 year old and the 7 year old with me.  The first Egg hunt was for the older grandson, Jonah.  He filled his basket full of eggs and candy.  Then it was the 3 year old hunt.  He had many of his friends around him and they all took off looking for the eggs.  After a bit, the Easter Egg Bunny appeared and we were all able to take those special pictures that will bring back fond memories.. Another Friday and I am so glad that it is here.  Lots going on and I need a break.  Family coming into town and we will have great visits with them. On Sunday,  we will have a Sunday Dinner with Beef Roast, Rice and Gravy, field peas, butter beans, corn, homemade biscuits, pear honey, biscuits with blueberry cobbler for dessert. Safely thru another week.  We have seen Spring come and are enjoying the flowers and birds that we have not seen for 6 months. Southport ~ Oak Island is still one of the best kept secrets of North Carolina.  We have very affordable housing long the Atlantic Ocean and in Southport you will find a sleepy little community of about 4000 folks.  This used to be a fishing community in days gone by...but now is just an attractive little town with antique stores, fish markets and excellent restaurants.  If you want a get away place with the Ocean and many golf courses to choose from,  THIS IS THE PLACE. Do you take time to smell the roses?  I have had the wonderful experience of spending time with my nine month old granddaughter, Marissa. We had such a great time pouring tea and eating snacks.  Then we had to dress the babies dolls and feel them.  WE loose precious time when we do not look around and see the beauty right under our noses.  Time that can never be made up. Normally you don't mention Southport and snow in the same sentence, but every once in awhile the snow gods smile down upon us and send us a little white stuff to crow about. It was just a dusting but it sure does show up pretty on our coastal flora. Most times our snow comes up from the South and East as this one did. The dominant weather pattern of West to East here on the NC coast will dump snow in the mountains and piedmont and about as far as the I95 corridor, and then we always just miss it by a few degrees. We've learned not to get our hopes up.   So even a little snow is a BIG DEAL! Schools were already closed for Martin Luther King day and a teacher workday so I dare say some young ones got their first ever glimpse of the white flakes.
