Opening Day at the Bill Smith Park in Southport. HE IS SAFE! It was so much fun for us that were there.   I had two of my grandchildren playing at different times.  Joshua and Marissa are on the"Wolfpack Team"~NC State.  This year the  leaders decided that the teams would be ACC teams.  So we have the Tar Heels,  the WolfPack and other college leagues.  This was a fun thing to do. Great fun day for us all. Ginger of Southport  05/29/2015

 Fishing in the Creek.  This is two of our Grandchildren, fishing in the creek in our back yard. They love to catch fish of all sizes.  This was not a keeper...but we had fun anyway.  Joshua continued to fish and finally caught a Puppy Drum that was about 15 inches long.  We were able to have fish for dinner.. Yum...  05/29/2015

 Grand Child is having her 7th  Birthday today..  She is a precious little thing that was born at home seven  years ago today.  No time to get to the hospital.We will be celebrating with her tonight in her home with a cookout and all of the fixins'.Neighbors and extended family will be with us to celebrate the birth of this precious little one. After this we went to her Brothers Baseball game and watched them WIN 7 to 5. Fun Day to be had by all. Hope your days are good too.Ginger Harper of Southport 05/28/2015

 Social Security and Retirement Insecurity            According to a new Gallup poll, retirement worries are on the rise.  The poll found that a majority (52%) of non-retired Americans now doubt they will have enough money to live comfortably once they retire.  This represents an 18% increase from five years ago.  According to the Employee Benefits Research Institute, one out of four Americans has decided to delay their age of retirement in the past year.   The Gallup poll also indicated that a large percentage of Americans approaching retirement do not understand social security retirement benefits.  Many fear that social security will not be there when they reach retirement.  With the leading edge of the baby boomers (those born in 1946) reaching 62 this year, there is a lot of short-... 05/27/2015

Today was Graduation of our Preschoolers at the Nesting Place in Southport.This is our precious Granddaughter AngaElla giving her Graduation Speech.At the age of 5, she seems very grown up. The ceremony was just as you would think it to be for these aged children.  They sang wonderful songs and just made us grandparents so very proud.  (Parents too) After Graduation, we spent a lovely afternoon in the Park with refereshments and lots of picture taking.    05/20/2015

 Southport has a Wooden Boat show that they hold every year in October.  This is an example of one of  the great boat that were  displayed in this years Wooden Boat Show. I enjoy viewing all of the wooden boat that are being displayed.  Many of the builders themselves, stand by the bost that they built and talk with you about the plans and the ups and downs of building a boat.  Many have put their boats in the water, only to find that their boat does NOT float.  Can YOU imagine the disappointment of that.  Working for months on a boat and it not float? But then again, you have boat builders that know exactly what to do and how to do it.  Their boats are beautiful.  You can tell from the craftmanship that those builders knew exactly what to do and HOW to do it!  Many of the really good b... 05/19/2015

 There is only one APP that means that much to me and that APP is the HotSpot App that is on my  Galaxy 5 Samsung Phone. I learned of this App this past Spring, when traveling with my Brothers to see an elderly Uncle in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  I knew that I had some work to do on the computer and thought that it would be so "cool" to be able to get on the computer and do a listing contract for a seller.  In talking with my techy Brothers, they asked if I had a HotSpot...I replied that I did not know.  They look at the phone and informed me that I REALLY DO! Therefore, they got it all set up for me to be able to do my work while going down the Highway at 75 MPH.  I was able to check in on the family, read my emails, respond back to folks that needed my response right away.. I thought ... 05/19/2015

TGIM Day.. WE have had a wonderful weekend but I am glad that it is Monday and I am tired of all the goings that we have done this weekend.First of all we had a Graduation for our Oldest Granddaughter from the College of Charleston, in Charleston,  South Carolina on Saturday.  WE sat outside on the  Cistern Yard among the huge Old Oak Trees that provided shade for those watching this momentous occasion.  It was wonderful watching Kathleen receive her Diploma and her honors medals. Next, WE were hosting a Family Reunion in Dublin, North Carolina.  WE had to plan for about 50 members of the family.  That was so much fun.  Everyone brought their favorite foods for the rest of the family to enjoy.  After pictures, we just sat around and shared fond memoriest of loved ones that are no longer... 05/18/2015

 There is going to be another season that will begin shortly.  It has been fun watching theprogram and seeing Southport.   Under the Dome is being filmed in our precious town of Southport NC. This picture was in last nights final episode for this season.It is in our Church, Trinity Methodist Church.I see many of my friends and neighbors in this picture.  It has been an exciting time in our little fishing village of Southport.  We have had many movies filmed her but Under the Dome..has been a long time in shooting.It is my understanding thst the next season will be filmed here also. Big Jim's Home is our house.  That  is very exciting.. Did you watch any of it 05/14/2015

   Our Weekends are for the Grandchildren..We can have from One to Six with us on the Weekends.. Do you take time to smell the roses?  I have had the wonderful experience of spending time with my nine month old granddaughter, Marissa.                 Did you wear a White Rose or a Red Rose on Sunday?   After breakfast, we went into the yard to find a red flowers for  our daughters..(meaning their mother is still alive)  and a white one for my husband and myself. (I lost my mother in 2000 and Jimmy lost his Mother in 2009).    WE had a great day .. Spending time with the family.   Going to Church and hearing a great sermon about "Mothers".    It is a tradition that my parents started with us as children.   Do you do this with your children?  It is a special tradition in our family....     Hope you had a glorious day today.   Ginger of Southport   05/12/2015

  This is such a great idea and everyone can do this.YOu get this great feeling in your heart when you do something for someone else and it is not expected.It can be as simple as letting a car get in line that is stuck on a side road; smiling a someone with a frown on their face; letting someone get in line in front of you when they have only one or two items and you have a basketfull; I sit in the evenings and make afgans for the folks in our local Nursing Center,  I make up to 50 a year.  They are simple and made to fit someone in a wheelchair. They are simple to make and only take about a week to make.  When finished, I will go down the hall and find someone that does not have much in their room.    I will greet them and tell them that I made this just for them.     They will say to ... 05/11/2015

  Happy Mother's Day to all YOU Mother's in Active Rain Land!Today was an extrodinary day around here in Southport North Carolina..First of all, we went to Church and had a wonderful program presented by the Children of our Church, Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport.  Wonderful program with lots of Singing and acting After church, my daughters helped with Dinner.The menu was:Roast BeefRice and GravyButterbeansPeasCornBiscuits with Butter and homemade Grape JellySweet Tea    .......and the meal was topped off with Strawberry Shortcake with Whipped Cream. To say the least,  a nap was in order after the family left for their own homes.. Hope you had a great day also!  05/10/2015
