This post was actually written a couple of weeks ago but the ActiveRain photo insertion rules changed while I was on hiatus!  Good reason to always continue to post to your blog consistently :-)   Here in Western NC it is very easy to get excited about the Halloween season. The weather and the leaves are cooperating, giving us cooler weather and brilliant color. Churches and schools are selling pumpkins for fundraising and photo ops are everywhere we turn.     Our very good friend in Sylva Vista scheduled her annual costume party for last night, we went and had a great time.     The Office Manager takes a little longer to warm up to the same level of enthusiasm that we have :-)

Don’t you think your perspective changes warps about the location of certain things when you are in real estate, for example - the locations of cemeteries and parking lots? The oddest things occur to me now and maybe it’s because I’m in the mountains and build-able property is at a premium. Sometimes I walk down my driveway or look out my window and think, thank goodness back when Congress was working more for the people that the Blue Ridge Parkway Service property was preserved. That would be my logical brain talking, the REALTOR brain says…the grade on that property is perfect for subdividing. Cemeteries are always in prime real estate locations, the nicest laying property commanding the best views. The Tuckasegee River runs along side of US74 here and occasionally there are mini-st...

This massive oak has been standing sentry on Church Street in Waynesville for far longer than any of the 100 plus year old houses.   Wouldn’t you love to hear the history he’s witnessed? How many soldiers took cover behind his trunk? How many lovers kissed beneath his leaves? How many children scrambled over his limbs?                                         He is hale and hearty still, ready to stand sentry for centuries more.

What a day!  I showed 11 houses near downtown Waynesville today.  They were all within a 4 mile radius and it went very smoothly thanks to the cooperation of the neighboring Haywood County MLS agents.     Living in Balsam, I am right on the Jackson/Haywood County Line.  We've owned a business in Waynesville and therefore are very familiar and comfortable with showing property in Waynesville.  Because we aren't members of the Haywood County MLS, we wouldn't dream of listing properties there but have had success with our buyers there.  Other agents in our own Northern Jackson MLS have complained that the Waynesville agents made it very difficult to show those Haywood County listings but I find that really hard to believe.   The Waynesville agents were all very gracious and accomodating...

To say I was scared is an exaggeration.  To all sellers of tenant occupied properties, you should know I tried to show your house but your tenants made it impossible. The showing instructions were 24 hour advance notice, knock and show.  I’d shown seven houses near downtown Waynesville. One property had tenants who would be notified and leave the house unlocked. I called the agency to verify and was told there hadn't been a return call from the tenants but not to worry. Just knock first.  We pulled up at the appointed time, my clients waited in the car until I could speak with any tenants who might be there. There was a car in the driveway so I knocked loudly several times. Finally, I opened the door and called inside. The young man standing right inside the door startled the daylight...

Waynesville, North Carolina (located in Haywood County) is a perfect location for festivals of all kinds.  I think of Waynesville as a town of whimsy.  Not only is there a vibrant community of artisans, but due to an admirable cooperative effort between merchants and landlords, Main Street is an interesting and captivating walking district.   Last week, Waynesville played host to the Folkmoot USA festival which they've done for 28 years.  Dancers and musicians travel to this mountain town and perform in venues all over Western North Carolina.  We visited Waynesville on the last day of the week-long event.  Even though the temperature was in the 90s, the dancers were decked out in colorful long dresses and still managed to look cool and comfortable, far more so than the spectators!      ...
