Wilmington NC will officially open its newest park, James E.L. Wade Park, on Thursday, January 29, 2009, at 10:30 am.  The city's newest park is located at the end of Bethel Road, off Waltmoor Drive. The Bethel Road Stormwater Wetland was completed mid-2007.  The design helped improve water quality in Hewlett's Creek.  The park is located on the wetlands.  It includes a 3/4 mile path, a picnic shelter, three bridges, restroom and playground.

The cast of the TV show "GHOST STORIES" is giving tours on the Battleship USS North Carolina docked at Wilmington, NC this weekend. There has been talk for years that this ship is haunted and has had ghostly visitors. The caretaker is always hearing doors shut by themselves and people walking around the ship when he is alone there. They must think there is something or someone on that ship or they wouldn't be here. The former warship is a very popular attraction in Wilmington. My husband had visitors from Japan to his company and that is all they wanted to see. We are lucky to have the old warrior in our backyard.

The Week in Review .....your Wilmington Connection January 18, 2009 Cold this week in Wilmington. Brrrrr...The Real estate market has been dragging a bit...but on a high note there has been a lot more activity these last two weeks than we have seen in the last 2 months. I hope this is a sign that buyers have taken on board that this is the best time as any with the interest rates at the lowest they have been in 50 years. 50 years! So if you are planninng on buying anytime soon you would be crazy not to do it now! In the last six months 1,276 homes have sold and 726 listings have expired. With only 1,276 homes sold in the last 6 months, that would mean we have approximately have 12.8 , so wouldn't you think that sellers would be very motivated to sell? Contact me if you are ready to look...

I've renamed my blog, "The Real Estate Wave Rider" for a couple of reasons.  One I love surfing and I think there are many lessons to be learned from it that can be applied to real life.  The real estate market is very dynamic, and there is success to be had in any market, as long as you understand it, practice, and have the right tools and skills.  Another reason I chose the name is that we, as individuals, cannot control what the market does, we just have to react to it and I like to metaphor that to riding the wave we call the real estate market. I'm going to teach the real estate community about surfing.  More comments to come

The Air Force One Museum got one step closer to reality for Wilmington this past week with approval by the Wilmington City Council. It was a unanimous vote to approve the $ 30 million project to be possibly built in Wilmington on the corner of Kerr Ave and Randall Parkway. It is a private project that will be funded by fundraising efforts of a group of volunteers headed by Howie Franklin, a local resident. He also is on the board of the search committee. Mr. Franklin previously served 5 presidents as their coordinator for all flights and details for each activity planned for Air Force One. Due to his previous Air Force One experience Mr. Franklin was selected for this committee. Other locations, besides Wilmington are also being considered. It has not been discussed here if the other lo...

WILMINGTON, NC PD - WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD   We are very lucky in central south Wilmington, NC to have some new neighbors - Wilmington Police Dept. The crimefighters will be move to an area where they can protect and serve southern Wilmington and New Hanover County. In this area the closest police station was either downtown or at Carolina Beach at least 20 minutes away. As this area has grown along with the southern Monkey Junction area it is good to have police coverage in the neighborhood. The new dept which was previously a commercial building is not yet open- construction is still going on. We expect a formal opening soon and are glad to have Wilmington Police Dept as our new neighbors.

Day 25:  1st Time Home Buyer Seminar Today my office gathered and talked about putting on an event to generate some business.  "Let's have a 1st Time Home Buyer Seminar".  Nothing new right?  Well actually, how many real estate companies are really hosting events to generate business these days?  It doesn't seem like many to me.  Why not?  Perhaps everyone has been glued to the tube and are believing all of the gloom and doom that they are hearing. What about the $7,500 rebate the government is offering for 1st Time Home Buyers?  Sounds like a good incentive to buy a house to me. What about interest rates being remarkably low?  Sounds like a great time to get a 30 year fixed loan. What about building equity rather than wasting money on renting?  Sounds like a no brainer to me. Would you...

Wilmington, NC -Architectural Styles- The BUNGALOW   Wilmington has many of these cottage-y style homes - the bungalow. An abundant number of these houses were built in the 1920's and were clustered around and in the historical area of downtown Wilmington. They were used as homes by merchants, shipworkers and storeowners. They usually consisted of 3 bedrooms, one bath, kitchen, dining and living room. They are very desireable today as they are small and rather affordable if they have never been rehabbed. People configure them in all different ways to make them more liveable. This one currently listed by Intracoastal Realty is on 2007 Metts Avenue - a desireable area. It is a centrally located, leafy neighborhood close to shopping and downtown. It is about 20 minutes to Wrightsville Bea...
